Job Summary


This Data Analyst position reports primarily to the Director of Institutional Research at Middle Georgia State University (MGA) and secondarily to the Head of Data Science & Learning Analytics at eCampus, a Unit of the University System of Georgia (USG). This position splits the workload and accountability evenly between MGA and eCampus in the following structure:

  • Working with MGA to support the analytical needs, clean, and organize data into databases, evaluate key performance metrics, and analyze trends. Perform ad hoc analyses to discover actionable information in support of strategic decision making. This includes developing reports, visualizations, dashboards, and data applications used to drive decision making and improve institutional outcomes at MGA.
  • Working with USG eCampus and affiliated USG partners to support the analytical needs, clean, and organize data into databases, evaluate key performance metrics, and analyze trends. Perform ad hoc analyses to discover actionable information in support of strategic decision making. This includes developing reports, visualizations, dashboards, and data applications used to drive decision making and improve innovation in eCampus and affiliated USG partners.

Responsibilities


MGA: Data Reporting and Analysis (10%) -
Respond to data and information reporting needs of the University's schools, departments, and senior administrators.
Respond to internal and external requests for research and data analysis needs, including but not limited to grant requests, data fulfillment requests, and open records requests.
Ensure data complies with established institutional research standards and protocols.
Serve as a resource to provide data-related technical and analytical support to various stakeholders in the University community.

MGA: Compliance and Governance (10%) -
Assist in data governance management as it relates to the data element dictionary, system access requests, and other projects related to institutional research.
Facilitate completion of IPEDS, US News, and other required external survey reporting.
Assist in ensuring institutional compliance under regulatory agencies (accreditation, federal, state).

MGA: Institutional Reporting and Assessment (10%) -
Assist with the researching and producing of institutional reports, including the MGA Fact Book, Common Data Set, and others as needed.
Integrate and interpret academic data used to support the assessment and program review process for academic programs, support units, and administrative units.

MGA: Project Management and Communication (10%) -
Conduct multiple short- and long-term OIRDS projects, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision as an integral member of the OIRDS team.
Provide meaningful communication of data in a variety of formats to university employees.
Attending and functioning as a positive contributor at check-in and team meetings.

MGA: Interpersonal Relations and Stakeholder Engagement (5%) -
Contribute to a healthy, productive work environment through maintaining transparent communication, upholding respectful behavior, and being on time consistently for all events and meetings.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders.

MGA: General Duties (5%) -
Other duties as assigned.

University System of Georgia eCampus (50%) -
Direct support to USG eCampus-related programs and partners in taking raw data and interpreting it to form meaningful conclusions and develop insights based on analysis. Develop spreadsheets, reports, and dashboards to deliver analytical insights to stakeholders. Anticipated software/tool usage includes Microsoft Excel, SQL, Tableau, and Smartsheet.
Compile and maintain comprehensive documentation of analytics strategy, terms, and processes.
Report and present outcomes to eCampus and USG affiliates, which may require occasional instate travel
Attend eCampus Data Science meetings, eCampus meetings, and other duties as assigned. Many meetings are held virtually, but occasional instate travel may be warranted

Required Qualifications


Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Required Experience
Sufficient experience (1-2 Years) to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.

Preferred Qualifications


Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in a related field

Preferred Experience
Experience and education in the social sciences or education
2 years of demonstrated experience in data analytics

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


Required

Strategic and analytical thinking skills with ability to solve problems
Excellent documentation skills
High level of experience in Microsoft Excel
Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
Knowledge of programming in SQL
Demonstrated experience in building business intelligence applications with Power BI/Tableau
Self-motivated with the ability to learn new concepts
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong customer service skills
Ability to work independently in a fast paced loosely structured environment with competing demand
Knowledge of institutional research principles and practices
Knowledge of current trends and solutions especially related to data reporting and business intelligence
Knowledge of FERPA and student confidentiality requirements.
Knowledge of data security best practices and data governance procedures

Preferred

Specific knowledge of Middle Georgia State University and University System of Georgia (USG)
Specific knowledge of Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS)
Working knowledge of Banner or an ability and willingness to learn
Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate or higher
Tableau Desktop Specialist or Tableau Data Analyst Certification
Demonstrated experience with PowerQuery
Experience in using SPSS or other comparable statistical analysis program for reporting and decision support
Experience using R or Python for data engineering or data analytics
Working knowledge of Smartsheet
