The Salvation Army Gateway Citadel Corp is looking to fill our Day Camp Counselor in Training position. This is a part-time temporary summer position that will start on June 1, 2023 and will end August 11, 2023. The pay is $13 per hour.

Job Objective
This position is expected to advance and support the Mission of The Salvation Army. It assists in Day Camp/After-School programs. If employee is under the age of 18, they will not be left alone with children without an adult present. Enjoy working with children and perform some cleaning duties as needed in program areas. Position is expected to comply with and meet The Salvation Army, Federal, State and Local policies, and standards.
Essential Functions
- Assist with supervision of children during activities in the program.
- Enforce rules as necessary.
- Lead and participate in all facets of these programs, e.g., recreation, snacks, crafts, field trips, etc.
- When necessary, mediate disputes among participants, being sensitive to needs of all parties.
- Clean eating, work, and play areas before and after activities.
- Assist in other youth activities as needed.
- Answer phone and take/forward messages as necessary.
- Help plan, schedule, and conduct the activities of these programs.
- Maintain and store all supplies and equipment.
- Train children in the care and use of games and equipment.
- Record and submit daily statistical reports.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with Salvation Army “Safe From Harm” program, recognizing as a minor they should not be with campers without another counselor or Salvation Army Adult present for any length of time.
- Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers, and supervisors. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors, and clients; respect of others’ property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about clients, co-workers, and supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications
Previous work with youth activities is desirable. Good communication skills. Requires basic verbal communications with children and other employees. Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid is a plus. Capable of lifting a 40-pound child.
Physical and Working Conditions
Must be capable of performing the above essential duties. Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. However, some work will be outdoors where it will be hot in the summer.
The Salvation Army, as a religious organization, is exempt from participation in federal and state unemployment insurance programs.
