Job Description

The Application Support Analyst Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)) position has two primary job functions, operational and strategic supporting all lab end users. Provides primary support for the CERNER EHR platform laboratory systems. Performs implementations, build, design, and troubleshooting. Responsible for multiple applications support. Serves as internal consultant to the user community to identify technology-based solutions / enhancements to existing workflow issues. Actively participate in the workflow analysis or redesign, as appropriate, to accommodate changes in technology.

 

SHIFT AND SCHEDULE

Full Time: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Provide troubleshooting and problem resolution for reported LIS problems.
  • Analyze and document current work processes to more accurately describe and resolve outstanding LIS issues.
  • Actively coordinate both internal and external resources for successful problem resolution.
  • Assist in the development of reports or specifications for reports as requested by LIS users.
  • Develop detailed specifications and effectively communicate same to outside vendors to ensure that programs installed meet user requirements.
  • Review, coordinate, and assist in the development of new enhancement testing and implementation project plan for new installations, including upgrade activities.
  • Coordinate resources to ensure that system setup and configuration meet operational expansion needs.
  • Plan and perform new application enhancements, upgrades and implementations.
  • Monitor new system setup and training to ensure full functionality following operational guidelines.
  • Utilization of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) model to identify “best practices” and actively participate in their implementation.
  • Develop and assist, where appropriate, with the training of both users and other support personnel.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of all clinical applications as assigned, including that specific to the implementation, maintenance, end-user training, departmental workflows, quality measures, and other associated performance indicators associated with the successful use of the clinical tool or software package.
  • Develop and maintain adequate configuration documentation to ensure rapid deployment or repair of existing software components to ensure business continuity.
  • Work to ensure a high level of application security of all protected information in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, including those defined by HIPAA and other
  • Support and administer interfaces with the lab system and at times consult in lab-related non-CERNER systems.
  • General support for all Laboratory Information System (LIS) and related laboratory applications including, but not limited to, pathology, blood bank, microbiology, genomics, phlebotomy, reference labs, and point of care testing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent degree strongly preferred or 4 years clinical experience in lieu of degree.
  • Medical Technologist or equivalent preferred. ASCP, HEW, AMT or Licensure as Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years Clinical Laboratory Experience required. Preferably 2-3 years managing cross-functional implementations of laboratory systems desired
  • Demonstrated Project Management experience including experience with systems conversions, new package releases.
  • Experience with LIS in a hospital setting
  • Background experience in Cerner Fundamentals. Strong knowledge of Clinical workflows and the domain. Strong communication, organizational and facilitation skills
  • Must be proficient and have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Adept at persuading and training physicians and staff to adopt new workflows and tools, requiring strong knowledge of change management
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information
  • Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner
  • Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, and maintain a positive attitude
  • Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work
  • Strong and sound competency in mapping real-life nursing and physician practices to informatics applications
  • Strong knowledge of systems analysis, workflow planning, gathering business requirements and transforming them into functional specifications
  • Broad knowledge of healthcare operations and associated technologies
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and healthcare guides
  • Excellent ability to translate technical terminology for consumption by non-technical audiences
  • Good familiarity with project management, quality assurance, and information systems design
  • Awareness of current IT security standards, applicable privacy laws, accreditation standards
  • Ability to lead and recommend documentation strategy changes to meet current safety and quality trends

  • Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.
