SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

JOB Summary:    

The Senior Accountant primarily assists the CFO in financial analysis, budgeting, audit, compliance, and risk management activities. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Prepare, analyze, and coordinate the annual budget activities.
2. Prepare the monthly budget variance reports.  Schedule and lead related meetings with various departments.  Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation for adjustments arising from the budget variance meetings.
3. Review purchase orders over $10k for CFO approval.
4. Prepare periodic financial and compliance status reports of grants over $10k or contracts over $10k.
5. Responsible for budget and contract calendars.
6. Assist in month-end closing, audit and tax preparation, and other Finance Department activities as designated by the CFO.
7. Report directly to the CFO.
8. Professionalism is expected in manner and in all forms of communication.
9. Perform appropriate back up duties of the Controller/Assistant Controller, General Accountant or other Finance Team member, as necessary or designated by the CFO.
10. Support the CFO’s liaison role with Finance & Asset Committee, Audit Committee, and the Board of Directors.
11. Perform routine and special projects as assigned by the CFO.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• 3 to 5 years of experience in financial, budget or project management.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
• Must be computer proficient with demonstrated experience in working with general ledger software, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word.  Knowledge of Blackbaud or similar systems preferred.
• Ability to multi-task and communicate well with individuals of all backgrounds

• Ability to work under pressure with attention to detail and sense of urgency.
• CPA preferred but not required.
