Medical Assisting Program Director - Peoria, Illinois

Midwest Technical Institute, an established career college with campuses throughout the Midwest and Mississippi Delta region, is seeking a Medical Assisting Program Director for our Peoria, Illinois campus.

This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to lead the Medical Assisting Program to maintain and enhance the program’s instructional curriculum, externships opportunities, and placements.

· Must have a minimum of an associate degree.

· Preferred credential in medical assisting by a credentialing organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). If not, the credential must be earned upon hire.

· Have a minimum of three years of work experience in related field of study, including a minimum of 160 hours of experience in an ambulatory healthcare setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures performed by medical assistants.

· Have strong organizational skills and a genuine sensitivity to the needs of the students.

· Have the ability to stand for long periods of time during lecture and clinical time.

· Knowledgeable of the course content and proficient in all skills taught within the program.

· Competent, as evidenced by satisfactory performance of skills, of all competencies taught in curriculum.

· Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Excel and skills in database management and record keeping.

· Faculty will be selected according to their knowledge and ability as well as their academic credentials

· Have a professional attitude and manner that reflects the high standards of MTI and the program you represent.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Be courteous to and approachable by instructors and students.

· Adhere to approved policies and procedures in the conduct of all instructional activities.

· Write any policies needed for accreditation or other areas of the program.

· Supervise and coordinate module schedule and staff to student ratio.

· Curriculum development and ongoing curriculum review.

· Assure compliance with accreditation mandates and standards in all areas of the program.

· Review course books and selection of any new materials, as well as review of currently used materials.

· Ordering of all supplies needed for the programs, following approval by the Director of Education or President.

· Offer support in any needed fashion to all instructors. May act as a substitute in the case of an absence from an instructor, if able.

· Provide additional assistance to students who may be struggling.

· Assist Externship Coordinator with externship placement, visits, and their coordination as needed.

· Assist with placement of students, offering reference letters and resources for student placements.

· Assist with disciplinary actions related to students’ academics, attendance or conduct.

· Attend Professional Advisory Board Meetings, Graduation Ceremonies, monthly program and staff meetings, open houses, “instructor training”, and other required functions.

· Lead and plan, at least annually, and as needed, advisory board meetings for the program. Choosing members for the advisory board will also be program director’s responsibility.

· Provide placement, retention, and CMA exam updates to Director of Education at monthly program meetings.

· Join or maintain membership to a professional organization pertaining to the professional responsibilities of MTI and attend conferences for this professional organization as needed.

· Maintain CEU’s as required by your professional organization.

· Assist with interviewing and hiring of all program personnel.
