Summary & Essential Job Functions

 This is a full-time position based out of the Wichita, KS office. The Organ Procurement Coordinator is responsible for organ placement and recovery activities in accordance with the Mission of the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DONOR COORDINATION

  1. Maintains an on-call schedule of approximately twelve to fifteen 24-hour call days per month (50% call).  Additionally, an average of 16 hours per week will be spent in the MTN office performing various follow-up activities.
  2. Evaluates medical suitability of potential organ and/or tissue donors, utilizing information from medical records, history and physical examination, and current health status.
  3. Professionally collaborates with hospital’s medical staff to assess the clinical status of the potential organ and/or tissue donor and direct the clinical management of the authorized organ and/or tissue donor.
  4. Requests and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests needed for evaluation of suitability and clinical management of potential organ and/or tissue donors.
  5. Works closely with the Hospital and Family Services Coordinator in offering potential donor families the option of donation in an appropriate and sensitive manner. 
  6. Provide informed authorization in accordance with state law and established MTN policies and procedures.
  7. Conducts all aspects of the donation process in compliance with established federal and state laws, AOPO and AATB standards, UNOS and FDA guidelines, CDC and MTN policies.
  8. Collaborates with the Donation Services Department staff to facilitate all aspects of the organ/tissue donation process, to include communications regarding organ/tissue suitability.
  9. Leads coordination of transportation and other logistics for local and outside recovery programs, in preparation for operative phase of recovery.
  10. Coordinates with MTN Preservation Specialists to facilitate all aspects of the organ/tissue recovery process.

ADMINISTRATIVE

  1. Completes donor case follow-up and required quality assurance responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner.
  2. Participates in research studies when appropriate, which enhance or improve the donation process.
  3. Maintains compliance with documentation and MTN Policies and Procedures.
  4. Works in partnership with other MTN team members to design and deliver programs for professional and public audiences to educate, foster awareness and support the goals and mission of MTN.
  5. Provides assistance with Hospital Services personnel in assigned hospitals as necessary.

Qualifications and Behavioral Competencies


QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

1. Undergraduate degree in health sciences or equivalent field of study and professional clinical work experience required.  NREMT-P Certification, RRT licensure or RN licensure strongly preferred.  Three or more years critical care experience preferred.

2. Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and participate in 24-hour call.  Must be available on non-call days during normal business hours.  Required to work for extended periods of time with few breaks.

3. Must maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy.  Must have reliable personal automobile transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines.  Must be able to travel within the service area by ground or air.

4. Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to function independently and collaboratively; demonstrated problem-solving and creative thinking skills and well-developed personal stress management skills.

5. Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to speak and communicate clearly and accurately to convey information to MTN stakeholders in person or by phone; written documentation of relevant information in a professional manner.

6. Ability to lift 50 pounds and transfer short distances.

7. Possess ability to operate telephones, computers and surgical equipment.

8. OSHA Category I – Exposed regularly to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties.  Bloodborne pathogens protection is required.

9. Home internet and wireless phone access may be required.
