What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Estimator position at MIELKE?
MIELKE Mechanical, Inc. is looking for an estimator with experience in commercial and industrial HVAC, plumbing, and process piping.

- The primary purpose of this position is to identify available projects to bid that maximizes our chances for success, prepare and submit accurate estimates, follow-up to increase proposal acceptance, and develop client relationships.
Priorities & Desired Results
- Play an active role in identifying available projects to bid that maximizes our chances for success
- Preparing accurate estimates using methods that maximize the quantity of estimates delivered
- To follow-up on bids and communicate with clients in a manner that increases our proposal acceptance rates
- To help facilitate relationships with our clients that lead to closing more sales
- To support the operations team as appropriate to help ensure project success
- Turning over sold projects to operations in a manner that sets them up for success on the project
Responsibilities & Typical Duties
- Identifying new bidding opportunities
- Attending pre-bid meetings
- Preparing estimates using the best possible procedures and technology to ensure maximum efficiency & productivity
- Reviewing project documents & insuring provisions are made to comply with requirements
- Coordinate with Pre-construction Assistant to ensure their tasks are being completed
- Perform all duties of the Pre-construction Assistant for projects you are bidding when no Pre-construction Assistant is available to work on your bid(s)
- Delivering proposals
- Following up on proposals
- Reaching out to inactive clients for new business opportunities
- Cold calling new clients & setting up introduction meetings
- Attending meetings with potential new clients, site visits and pre-proposal meetings
- To schedule & participate in turnover meetings with the operations team
- Performing cost analysis for the operations team as necessary
- Performing change in scope take-offs for the operations team as necessary
- To generally support the operations team as appropriate throughout the life of projects you bid
- To participate in post job review meetings and perform analysis of actual costs versus estimated costs
