Organization Overview
Formed in 2008, Mile High 360 is an educational Community of Practice with and for first-generation postsecondary students. Using a longitudinal framework (6th grade through age
24) and year-round out-of-school-time (after school, weekends, and summertime), Mile High
360 mobilizes and organizes a set of essential out-of-school resources in four interconnected categories (Health & Wellness, Academics, Life Skills, and Mentoring) that, when paired with formal schooling, have a profound impact on educational and life outcomes.
Overview:
The Postsecondary Advisor (PSA) will be responsible for refining and implementing a comprehensive program of support, enrichment, and counsel for the MH360 postsecondary students and will assist with high school academic support that specifically supports a culture of postsecondary education. The Postsecondary Advisor works across a variety of contexts and collaborates with a range of stakeholders: students, staff, university personale, and program officers from scholarship foundation.
Responsibilities:
The Postsecondary Advisor is accountable for the following:
I. Refinement and implementation of MH360’s postsecondary curriculum that addresses and attends to the following four content areas: i. Academic Planning- course selection, tutoring/study help, goal setting that align with each student’s postsecondary goals, accessing campus resources ii. Financial Planning- financial aid (grants vs. loans, work-study, scholarships), FAFSA, tuition, general financial health & awareness; iii. Career Planning- internships, resume writing, and networking; iv. Health & Wellness - events that support social and emotional wellbeing in the postsecondary space.
II. Provide multiple entry points into postsecondary for all students through the following: i. Collaborating with the HS Academic Coordinator to provide a clear transition plan from high school to postsecondary education; ii. Introducing postsecondary pathways to middle school students in an accessible way iii. Planning and implementing enrichment and support sessions specific to the transition from high school to the post-secondary environment; iv. Leading campus visits for all high school students;
v. Participating in team events, service learning projects, and overnight trips, as needed.
III. Establish and maintain strong relationships with postsecondary students and other key postsecondary stakeholders by: i. Communicating (visits, email, texts, video chats, in-person, etc.) with postsecondary students on a regular basis about their academic/career trajectory and issues related to life, general well-being, learning, future planning, and development;
IV. Identify, organize, and mobilize the essential resources in support of the transition from a post-secondary institution to early career endeavors. These include but are not limited to: i. Networking events ii. Financial literacy classes iii. Career fairs and preparation iv. Connecting with families as their student progresses through post-secondary v. Speaking engagements and organization of informational interviews
This position has a schedule of Tuesday through Saturday. There will be weeks when a
Monday-Friday schedule is necessary; however, Saturdays are a prime time to meet with students on campuses. The schedule is up for discussion, as this position requires travel.
This position is classified as Exempt.
Requirements:
● A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
● 2-4 years experience supporting first generation college bound students
● Strong organization skills, attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness with tasks
● Competency supporting completion of FAFSA and CASFA, college applications, and financial aid documents
● Ability to collaborate with university administration, corporate human resources, and professionals
Highly Desirable:
● Spanish fluency (oral and written)
Salary range $55,000 - $58,000
Benefits included: healthcare by Kaiser Permanente, vision by United, dental by Delta.
Days off per year: Approximately 32 days off, with days off closely following the school
calendar. Additionally, employees get 5 days per year to be used at the employee's discretion for any combination of sick and personal days.
