Position Summary: As a Buyer at Ice-O-Matic, you will be responsible for managing the procurement process to ensure the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials and supplies necessary for our manufacturing operations. You will work closely with various departments to maintain optimal inventory levels, negotiate with suppliers, and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our production process.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement Management:
- Source and purchase materials, components, and supplies needed for manufacturing operations in accordance with production schedules and requirements.
- Routinely perform RFI (Request for Information), RFP (Request for Proposal), and RFB (Request for Bid) processes to secure the best value for the company.
- Proactively perform cost analysis and make recommendations for cost-saving and efficiency improvements.
- Determine actions required to support production and acts accordingly. Actions may include: expediting parts, locating parts in house, counting inventory, identifying and resolving root cause issues.
- Creates and maintains purchase orders for production, new product development, special services and facility support, including maintenance projects and office supplies.
- Supplier Relations: Develop and maintain stronger relationships with suppliers and vendors, negotiate terms and prices, and ensure the timely delivery of goods.
- Inventory Control: Monitor inventory levels, track usage, and forecast demand to prevent stockouts or excess inventory. Utilize ERP/MRP systems and VMI/Kanban to manage inventory efficiency.
- Cost Management: Analyze market trends and pricing to secure the best value for purchases. Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to optimize procurement expenses.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that purchased materials meet quality standards and specifications. Work with quality control teams to address any issues with suppliers or received goods.
- Order Processing: Prepare and issue purchase orders, track order status, and coordinate with suppliers to resolve any delivery or quality issues.
- Reporting and Analysis: Maintain accurate records of procurement activities, generate reports on inventory levels, spending, and supplier performance. Use data to make informed decisions and improve procurement processes.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and industry regulations related to procurement and supply chain management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Buyer or in a similar procurement role within a high-volume, repetitive manufacturing environment.
- ERP/MRP Systems: Proficiency in utilizing ERP/MRP systems for inventory management and procurement processes. Experience with QAD / SAP is a plus.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Exposure to lean manufacturing techniques preferred.
- Ability to make decisions within defined procedures; able to handle different and specialized situations in job
- Ability to follow established priorities; expected to evaluate and respond to new situations requiring immediate attention
- Able to communicate effectively including e-mails and letters to clearly outline company’s position
- Intermediate ability with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze market trends and make data-driven decisions.
- Highly organized and efficient, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to address issues promptly.
- Preferred Skills:
- Excel Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to create and manage complex spreadsheets, use formulas, pivot tables, and perform data analysis.
- Organizational Skills: Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.

The annual base salary for this position is $60,000.00 - $85,000.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to the base salary this position is eligible for an annual profit-sharing bonus.
