QUALIFICATIONS:


1. Valid Pennsylvania Teaching and ESL certificate, required.

  • Teaching experience, preferred.
  • Ability to organize instruction for students with diversified learning needs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency using technology for computer assisted management and intervention programs with students.
  • Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.


REPORTS TO:
Building Principal and Director of Student Services


JOB GOAL:
To provide remedial and supportive services to students with limited English proficiency (LEP).


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work in conjunction with the building level teams to screen students who may be in need of English as a Second Language (ESL) Support.
  • Facilitate both the state and district assessment processes relative to determining levels of English proficiency.
  • Develop assessment reports determining need for support.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Provide English as a Second language educational service to students with LEP emphasizing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
  • Review student progress with ESL goals, provide annual written progress reports to parents as well as feedback to the building level teams.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff relative to individual student curricular and social needs and progress.
  • Maintain data collection, comprehensive records, and updated class lists.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, material, and facilities.
  • Provide students with instruction that supports constructive, task-oriented behavior within the assigned schedule of classes in the assigned location.
  • Learn and implement new instructional strategies, processes, and curriculum expectations concurrent with district philosophy of education, curricula, and instructional goals by attending building faculty, district curricular process development, and special education departmental meetings and reading district communiqués.
  • Inform the community of program availability and goals. Present information to parent groups, P.T.A., teacher groups / school administrators, and professional organizations, as needed.
  • Attend faculty and staff meetings.
  • Refer, evaluate, and implement assistive technology goals when appropriate.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:


  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
