Miller Brother Staffing Solutions is seeking qualified candidates for a few CNC Operator positions. We have openings on 1st and 3rd shift with a pay range of $18-22/hour.
CNC Operator
Shift: 1st (7am-3pm) and 3rd (11pm-7am)
Pay Range: $18-22/hour
Screening Process: candidates must pass a drug screen and be open to a criminal background check
Summary
The candidate is cross-trained to set up and operate a variety of CNC drilling/filling/trimming/slotting machines and equipment to produce a variety of rotary, cylinder and hand maintenance brushes according to work orders and blueprints:
Duties
- Reviews work order and blueprints for job number, specifications, materials, sizes and dimensions.
- Verifies that work order agrees with blueprint;
- Selects appropriate program in computer; makes adjustments as necessary to accommodate variances in block size using math calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, percentages) to determine number of steps, stops, starts, jumps, etc., referring to instruction manual.
- Gathers blocks or cylinders and filler materials.
- Works with wood and plastic blocks and cylinders and various natural and manmade filler materials including but not limited to natural fiber, nylon, prope, bassine, tampico and wire.
- Selects and installs appropriate tooling for drilling, filling and trimming components including holders, mounting brackets, buffers, drills, picker bars, drivers, tool heads and staple wire; adjusts trimmer settings including carriage position, pivot setting, height of trimmer head; adjusts table/bridge components and table height and length; uses various tools including screwdrivers, pliers, channel locks, metric and standard allen keys, wrenches, hammer, utility knife, router, air hose, degreaser, drills, vice grips.
- Establishes pattern onto block; sets drill depth; drills first hole and checks depth; adjusts if necessary; determines amount of filler material needed based on either strand count or weight; loads filler materials and adjusts stock box as necessary; drills and fills entire brush, moving block if necessary from drill to fill side; runs through trimmer if necessary;
- Slots blocks as necessary; sets up slotter; removes and replaces blades for width, depth and height.
- Checks height, spread and all other dimensions on work order using various measuring devices including calipers, scales, vernier calipers and dial indicators; performs pull tests as necessary; may weigh blocks before and after filling to ensure weight matches specs on work order; obtains first piece inspection from designated personnel.
- Runs entire job or sets up Operator to run; continually checks quality and completes appropriate paperwork; repairs brushes as needed.
- Empties shavings from vacuum into garbage can as needed and occasionally lifts and transports 150-pound garbage can with assistance from coworker.
- Constructs boxes to appropriate size as needed using band saw, staple gun, foot stapler, utility knife; packs finished products into boxes, affixes labels and operator stamp; seals box and loads onto pallet with appropriate paperwork.
- Repairs and troubleshoots machines and parts as necessary.
- Communicates with other shift employees to relay status of in-process jobs and machines.
- Obtains first-piece inspection from designated personnel, and follows all prescribed quality inspection requirements.
- Large Cylinder production requires manual insertion of 80-pound steel mandrils into 25-pound plastic cylinders, requiring incumbent to climb on ladder and pound steel insert into cylinder standing on end with 5-pound rubber mallet. Also requires frequent loading and unloading of cylinders weighing 10 to 50 pounds 3 - 15 times per hour.
Minimum Qualifications
- Mathematical aptitude
- Mechanical aptitude and ability
- Ability to read blueprints and specifications
- Ability to read measuring devices such as calipers, scales, vernier calipers and dial indicators
- Manual dexterity, eye/hand coordination and ability to use hand tools in order to set up tooling on machines and operate drilling/filling/trimming/slotting machines
- Ability to lift up to 50-pound cylinders in Large Cylinder Cell 3 - 15 times per hour.
- Ability to occasionally lift 60-pound boxes of materials and frequently lift finished brushes weighing up to 25 pounds; ability to move and tip over 200-pound spools of wire with assistance from coworker
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversees work of approximately 1 - 2 CNC Brush Production Operators in conjunction with the Cell Leader. May fill in for Cell Leader as needed.
