The Senior Accountant is responsible for various accounting and reporting tasks, including maintenance of general ledger accounts, preparation of account reconciliations and other financial schedules/reports, and ensuring compliance with organization policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This individual will be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures and will rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The Senior Accountant performs a variety of complicated tasks and may lead and direct the work of others.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the month-end close process ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and organizational policies
- Compile and analyze financial data to prepare or review adjusting journal entries and spreadsheets
- Prepare or review general ledger account reconciliations; identify, research and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Analyze designated accounts and departmental activity to ensure that transactions have been accurately coded and recorded; identify, investigate, resolve or report on activity that may be unexpected
- Provide timely, accurate information and meaningful variance analysis within area of assignment; create and present reports to senior managers
- Maintain Fixed Asset sub ledger
- Review or input Fixed Asset transactions, ensuring appropriate authorizations and coding, adequate supporting documentation, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and organizational policies
- Maintain Construction in Progress accounts, ensuring proper recording and transfer to Fixed Asset sub ledger
- Prepare related reporting on a monthly, quarterly or ad hoc basis
- Assist with the annual financial statement audit, within area of responsibility, and periodic audits by various regulatory agencies
- Coordinate preparation of multi-state sales tax returns and correspondence with various taxing authorities
- Perform any range of special accounting projects as required
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
- Five years of relevant professional experience
- Working knowledge of accounting systems especially General Ledger and Fixed Assets modules
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principals
- Proficient in Microsoft office suite to include advanced Excel skills
- Detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and be self-motivated
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Solid organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer service in a fast-paced environment
