Short Description

The Actuary position is responsible for performing various levels of analysis related to our client projects. The ideal candidate is a critical thinker who possesses strong communication and organizational skills, and is committed to, or has already completed, the actuarial exam process. This position also requires strong technical skills to pair with creative problem solving skills to assist on a wide variety of consulting projects. The nature of the projects will vary widely throughout the year. We do traditional actuarial work such as ratemaking, predictive modeling and reserving, plus a variety of special projects.

Who We Are

The nature of the projects will vary widely through the year. We do traditional actuarial work such as ratemaking, reserving, predictive modeling and competitive analysis, plus a variety of special projects.

Role

The Actuary helps lead multiple projects simultaneously. On a typical assignment, the actuary would be responsible for:

  • Contribute to the vision of a given project and design analyses
  • Write reports and support Principal with client communication
  • Direct interaction with client and/or client's other vendor partners (e.g., broker, captive manager, auditor)
  • Oversee the execution of the project
  • Direct staff participation
  • Train and provide guidance to Actuarial Analysts
  • Comply with internal quality control and peer review guidelines
  • Participate in marketing opportunities including publications and presentations
  • Perform or assist with other duties assigned at the direction of management

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • ACAS with 2 years of experience in property and casualty reserving
  • 4 years of experience with medical professional liability insurance or other claims-made insurance products
  • Experience presenting results and proposed changes to stakeholders
  • Experience successfully leading projects
  • Experience handling multiple projects and multi-tasking

Desired Experience:

  • Experience with large account pricing
  • Experience with business intelligence / visualization software (e.g., powerBI or Tableau)
  • Experience with Statements of Actuarial Opinions for statutory insurance company Annual Statements
  • Experience supervising staff

Location

This position will be based out of the Milliman office in Pasadena, but applicants can work from another Milliman office such as Dallas, Orange County, San Francisco, or Seattle.

Compensation

The base salary for the position will vary with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. In addition, we offer a significant performance-based bonus plan, profit sharing, and generous benefits. We also offer a full study program for actuarial students.
