BASIC FUNCTION
The Investment Analyst position is an entry level position in the investment consulting field. The Investment Analyst works in a team environment and operates in four primary areas of responsibility:
- Performing analysis and due diligence on Pension, Foundation and 401(k) investment managers and investment options
- Preparing quarterly performance reports and manager searches for investment clients.
- Monitoring pension portfolio asset levels and initiating appropriate rebalancing
- Conducting investment manager research and preparing reports and conducting fund research for internal Milliman clients such as the marketing group and the client service teams.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze investment performance via analytical software, manager interviews, and other research
- Draft investment manager performance memos
- Participate in and conduct investment manager reviews and interviews
- Present investment manager candidates to research and consulting team and clients
- Maintain a list of preferred investment managers for major asset classes
- Coordinate and process quarterly client investment reports
- Maintain current data regarding fees, expenses, availability, and cost sharing for managers across various trust platforms
- Respond to internal requests for information regarding plan investment options
- Research and prepare investment option lists for marketing purposes and client proposals
- Special projects as needed
- Overall, prepare consultant team with knowledge and backup for client meetings and presentations
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, or other business related analytical field.
- Working knowledge of Modern Portfolio Theory (alpha, beta, correlation, mean variance optimization, etc.)
- Self-starter, flexible attitude with an enthusiasm for the investment manager and research performance analytics
- Willing to take on unfamiliar projects, think creatively, learn new software and prioritize vital information
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and Access)
- Ability to work within a team environment and independently manage own work
- Willing to pursue continuing education in the Investment Management Consulting field; e.g. CIMA, CFA
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on client service
- Basic project management skills
- Excellent analytical and mathematical capabilities, with great attention to detail
- Demonstrate solid organizational skills, balancing and prioritizing multiple projects
- Ability to solve problems efficiently while being innovative and creative
