Who We Are

This position is for the pharmacy benefits consulting team within the Milliman’s San Diego Health Practice, which primarily serves plan sponsors that have contracted with PBMs to provide pharmacy benefits. The team helps plan sponsors work with their PBMs to deliver a high level of service to their members while also managing costs.

The Department/Team

The San Diego Health practice includes employees with diverse areas of experience and expertise in the pharmacy space. Current employees include those that have worked as actuaries, PBM analysts/consultants, pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians. Pharmacy consulting work is, by nature, constantly changing and rarely routine. Applicants must feel comfortable taking initiative and adapting to an environment that requires attention to detail, collaboration, integrity, and resourcefulness.

Role

We are looking for a Pharmacy Benefits Analyst to handle a diverse range of analytical projects to support the pharmacy benefits consulting practice.

Job Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include the following:

  • Develop and refine SQL queries to analyze client's pharmacy claims
  • Conduct data-driven analyses using databases and spreadsheets, and draft written reports explaining the results
  • Be able to work independently and but also participate actively as a member of various project teams, fostering the sharing of relevant information and helping to build consensus collaboratively.
  • Assist with the management of data requests, project deadlines, scope of work, and client deliverables
  • Assist with sales and marketing by drafting proposals, presentations, exhibits, RFPs, etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in mathematics, statistics, data science, economics, or a related field
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in the pharmacy benefits industry; advanced knowledge preferred
  • Working knowledge of Excel and database/statistical analysis language (SQL or SAS)
  • Proficiency with basic statistics
  • Experience with pharmacy claims data and their nomenclatures, including NDC, AWP, PBM, WAC, etc.
  • Knowledge of claims reimbursement and how these manifest in claim adjudication and downstream analyses
  • Strong technical communication skills, written and oral

Location

This position will be based out of the Milliman office in San Diego. Applicants must be willing to work onsite in the Milliman office.
