Job purpose
The mechanic performs tasks involving physical labor on highway and heavy construction machinery including dozers, trucks, diesel trucks, and other machinery as needed. The position may operate a variety of hand and power tools. The position may assist other workers as required.
Duties and responsibilities
- Supports all labor activity involved in maintaining our fleet of equipment
- Day to day tasks vary between new equipment build, shop and field repairs and service.
- Welding, electrical, and hydraulic work on equipment.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and repair of equipment as required.
- Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner
- Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Equipment Manager, Project Manager, Safety Director, or HR Manager.
Qualifications

- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience with diesel mechanics, welding, and hydraulics is preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical test equipment
- Experience in electrical troubleshooting is a must
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Must be able to travel to customer location.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Must provide steel toe boots (safety vest, glasses and hardhat provided)
- Civil construction industry experience is a plus.
Other Functions
- Safety support and planning work with Health and Safety Personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working conditions
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.
- Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.

- Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.

- Able to walk on uneven surfaces over sometimes great distances; frequently climb on/off equipment; climb ladders frequently.
- Use hands to perform activities involving grasping, turning, holding and pulling.
- Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow; hear and distinguish auditory signals.
- Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery; bend, walk, stand and sit for extended time; and use hand tools.
- Exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
