Position: Campus Dean of Special Education
Reports to: Special Education Director
Job Summary:
The position of Dean of Special Education will support the Special Education Director in training, monitoring and ensuring high quality special education service delivery at assigned MCP campuses. The purpose behind this model is to have the SPED Dean be a part of the Campus Leadership Team(s), to facilitate Campus based SPED meetings, to be more present to support SPED staff and to be more familiar with students and families to be able to support during IEP meetings when needed.
Essential Functions:
Position Responsibilities
- Mentor special education teachers to include:
- IEP compliance, process and procedures
- IEP authorship
- OASYS, special education management system
- Scheduling
- Collaboration with regular education staff
- Mentor special education educational assistants to include:
- Instructional strategies
- Behavioral strategies
- IEP compliance
- Plan SPED EA trainings
- Models lessons and strategies to staff
- Supports staff with resources
- Communicate with RtI Coordinator regarding potential IEP referrals.
- Review IEP progress reports for measureable outcome progress statements
- Review IEPs and assist in the development and implementation of standards-based IEP writing
- Data collection and analysis for documentation of standards mastery, IEP goals and student proficiency
- Support special education teachers in developing accommodations and modifications
- Provide Campus based PD and training for staff regarding various special education topics, such as: scaffolding, accommodations, modifications, and supplementary aids and services
- Help plan and execute monthly MCP network SPED Meetings
- Participation in Data Digs to support planning, analysis and re-teaching of lessons for SWD
- Consultation with teachers and observation in classrooms to ensure supplementary aids and services, and specially designed instruction are implemented in the least restrictive environment
- Observation and consultation with EAs to ensure fidelity of service delivery
- Meet weekly with Special Education Director to plan, monitor and review special education compliance
- Complete SPED teacher responsibilities for students on caseload.
Other Duties:
- Provide model for students and staff of exemplary conduct
- Attend designated trainings and staff meetings
- Attend weekly Campus leadership team meetings
- Complete observations and provide input regarding special education evaluations
- Attend all initial IEP’s (or coordinate with SPED Dir if not available)
Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor’s degree in special education required, Master’s degree preferred, ongoing professional development helpful
Experience
Prior teaching experience in special education required; administrative and/or supervisory experience preferred
Licensing
Valid State Teaching Certification in special education required. Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certification required annually before first day with scholars.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
The majority of this job involves walking, sitting or standing necessary to observe classroom instruction and school activities, mostly indoors. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Job Parameters: (Full time)
- Staff vacation days during school year (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc.) and 10 paid personal days per year. Summer report date is one week prior to New Staff Orientation.
