What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer WMSE Music Library Assistant position at Milwaukee School of Engineering?
Assists the WMSE Music Director in both daily and long-term music library tasks to serve WMSE’s main collection of over 42,000 vinyl albums and over 55,000 CDs. Works collaboratively with the WMSE Music Director to help organize, maintain and build WMSE’s eclectic, growing collection that ranges from jazz to hip hop, local, alternative, classical, blues, world and beyond. Assists other WMSE staff as necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- rotating older materials to make room for new materials
- placing older materials into space-saving vu-packs
- filing older materials in WMSE’s main library drawers in alphabetical order, according to genre
- maintaining alphabetized order of older filed materials (CDs and vinyl)
- creating replacement organizational markers for CD/vinyl shelves
- replacing worn sleeves on older materials
- flagging and pulling duplicate copies of materials in collection

- has great communication and interpersonal skills
- holds a strong work ethic and a commitment to the mission and values of WMSE
- holds the ability to prioritize and manage multiple duties without compromising quality
- loves music and would be interested in broadening their knowledge of different genres and styles of music
- is interested in learning more about WMSE itself, including WMSE’s programming and respective DJs
- has an affinity for public radio
