The role of the Design Engineer II is to act as the lead design engineer and technical resource driving advanced projects forward as part of a small, targeted team. Our advanced engineers are hands-on, technical experts that can see past perceived barriers and use that mentality to uncover new ways of thinking to solve challenging technical hurdles. As part of a cross-functional team composed of equally motivated Design Researchers, Industrial Designers, and Concept Engineers, you will work to uncover unmet new design solutions, ideate creative ways to solve technical problems, and act as the technical expert in the creation and execution of the ideas into concepts.

The role of the Design Engineer II is to act as the lead design engineer and technical resource driving advanced projects forward as part of a small, targeted team. You’ll also be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
- Experienced technical resource and mechanical engineering
- Participate in local and regional field research and user centered design process. Define benefits that are critical to our users and build prototypes to execute on those benefits.
- Work closely with other core competencies within the organization (Marketing, Reliability, Testing, Rapid Prototyping) to develop best in class products.
- Critically evaluate product designs considering user needs, durability, materials, manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Perform a wide variety of engineering and design tasks including but not limited to:
- Translating user observations to technical insights
- Experience at 3D modeling in NX and/or SolidWorks, general understanding and use of GD&T
- Engineering Calculations and software aided Analysis in the following areas: mechanical stress analysis, material and heat treatment selection, tolerance and fit analyses, statics/dynamics, CFD & mechanism motion,
- Strong Rapid Prototyping skills ranging from low fidelity to looks-like/works-like models and systems
- Leading the development of new test procedures and equipment where needed
- Work as a technical resource to troubleshoot problems with manufacturing teams and suppliers
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and/or a related Engineering degree
- Minimum of 2 years within product design, systems engineering, or testing/validation with a proven track record of creativity and invention
- Strong mechanical aptitude based on experience including a broad knowledge of mechanisms, engineering materials, mechanical properties, and manufacturing processes
- Must be a highly motivated self-starter with a never-satisfied, always-improvement attitude. Must be agile and able to work in an ever-changing and flexible environment.
- Ability to travel up to 10% (travel includes Domestic and International).
- Proficiency in various computer skills including Microsoft Office Tools
- Personal attributes: highly motivated, entrepreneurial, innovative, collaborative, dynamic, curious. A “not afraid to fail in order to learn” mindset.
- Engaged team member with a hands-on attitude & superior communication skills
- Working knowledge of statistical analysis software: Python or Minitab preferred.
- Experience with design-thinking methods, processes & tools
- Desire to give/receive real-time feedback and criticism to adjust course
- Experience with plastics, elastomers, metals and post processing
- Experience reviewing IP and technical papers
- High interest in tools of the construction trades.
