Minnesota Children's Museum's Experience Developers are a passionate team dedicated to crafting immersive experiences that inspire, educate, and bring joy. The Experience Developer is responsible for creating, implementing, and continually improving museum learning experiences. This includes developing the experiences that become three-dimensional exhibit environments, programmatic activities, and ensuring that these experiences throughout the museum are engaging for children ages 0-10 years, as well as for caregivers, educators, adults and groups.


REPORTS TO: Experience Development Manager


HOURLY RATE: $29.50


CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, Full-time


SCHEDULE: 32 hours/week hybrid eligible

You are expected to be on-site as needed, at least 2 days of the week in the office.

Occasional weekend or evening hours required to support special programs or projects.


MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Working with a museum wide team to develop playful, dynamic learning environments that promote museum’s learning objectives.


Project Management and Teamwork

  • Document, share and communicate progress including project updates, challenges and successes with relevant parties and stakeholders such as team members and Director of Experience.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with 2D, 3D designers, prop specialists and fabrication to create cohesive exhibits.
  • In collaboration with Program Coordinator develop and advise on activities to integrate into museum experience.
  • Present exhibit concepts and development progress to internal groups including leadership, board members and funders. As well as external groups at conferences and workshops.

Ideation and research

  • Lead ideation sessions to generate innovative concepts for exhibits and programs.
  • Conduct research on relevant content, activities, and components to inform experience development, and align with the Museum's learning goals and visitor needs.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and diverse stakeholders to gather insights and perspectives.

Prototyping and Evaluation

  • Prototype and iterate on exhibit concepts, ensuring alignment with the museum's learning and experience goals.
  • Conduct front-end, formative, and remedial evaluations of exhibits and programs.
  • Incorporate visitor feedback and evaluation results to improve visitor experiences and learning outcomes.

Writing

  • Develop internal documents that capture the scope of the experience, including project goals, learning objectives, and materials, throughout the exhibit development process.
  • Write, test, and edit exhibit messages for graphics and collateral materials throughout the exhibit development process in collaboration with project team, and External Relations.
  • Produce clear and engaging content for various audiences, including children, families, and educators.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (please highlight the following in resume or cover letter)

  • 7 years of combined experience in formal and/or informal education, work and/or volunteer in exhibit or program development, visitor-focused roles, museum roles, exhibit or set design and cultural experience producing.
  • 3 years of experience in team-based project development.
  • Demonstrated success in developing interactive experiences for children and families.
  • Experience with exhibit or program development and evaluation focused on young children.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Understanding of Cultural Competency and its importance in development, design, and visitor experience.
  • Knowledge of childhood development sufficient to produce developmentally appropriate experiences.
  • Ability to generalize specific information, generate ideas and apply abstract theories to concrete experiences (storytelling through play).
  • Demonstrates initiative (e.g., in starting tasks, asking questions, identifying and discussing problems, ability to structure own work, project manage and stay on task).
  • Leverage interest and knowledge of diverse educational media, including electronic manipulatives, audio, video, and tablet-based content, as a modality in creating engaging, inclusive, and effective learning experiences for a wide range of audiences.
  • Enthusiasm and dedication to helping children of all ages learn and grow through play.

SELECTION PROCESS

  • Screening by Talent Resources (will be a phone interview or written questions).
  • 1st ROUND: In-person interview with Experience Development Manager, Experience Developer and internal stakeholders (90 minutes - interview and tour).
  • 2nd ROUND: In person interview with Experience Development Manager, Director of Experiences and Vice President of Museum Experience.
