What are the responsibilities and job description for the Treatment Court Intern, St. Louis County, Duluth position at Minnesota Judicial Branch?
The Sixth Judicial District Treatment Courts are pleased to offer an internship opportunity. This position will contribute to the South St. Louis County DWI Treatment Court functions and learn from experienced court professionals. The internship is a highly professional opportunity working with Duluth judges, court administration, and external justice partners in a remote courtroom setting.
Hours are Tuesday afternoons from 1:30 - 4:30 PM plus 1-2 hours per week outside of the remote courtroom that are flexible for follow-up phone calls, data entry, and training. A minimum of 4 hours/week is expected, and may vary from week to week, depending on business need and intern's schedule. The Treatment Court office is located in the St. Louis County Courthouse, downtown Duluth.Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed:- Conducts initial SBIRT screenings (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment) with first time DWI offenders using the AUDIT tool (Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test) and DAST (Drug Abuse Screening Test) tools and motivational interviewing techniques.
- Completes follow-up phone calls one month after the initial SBIRT screening.
- Collects and enters data related to both the initial and follow-up interventions.
- Categorizes and maintains files related to SBIRT screenings and follow-ups.
- Maintains participant confidentiality during and after the SBIRT process.
- Connects and communicates with external agencies also working on the SBIRT project.
- Learns to and performs routine clerical and administrative work in area of assignment which may include data entry, typing, printing, scanning, document preparation or review, record or document sorting and filing, scheduling, tracking and posting information, updating website content, ordering supplies, and sorting and distributing mail.
- Learns to and performs basic receptionist duties which may include greeting and directing visitors and court customers, checking in visitors, responding to basic questions in person and over the phone, and assisting customers with form completion.
- Learns the processes, rules, policies, and procedures in the area of assignment; applies learned processes, rules, policies, and procedures to assigned tasks.
- Learns about and participates in meetings.
- May assist with coordinating, setting up, and clean-up for employer events.
- May research or compile basic information to answer questions or as directed by court staff.
- Supports clerical or administrative staff in a range of duties.
- Current enrollment in a full-time undergraduate program
- Interest and enthusiasm for the court system, and public service
- Ability to interact professionally with employees, participants, executives, and judges
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Strong technology skills, including advanced Microsoft Office experience
Successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal background check.
All hours will be worked onsite and within business hours (between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday-Friday).
