Legal Counsel

As a result of consistent year over year growth and significant future market opportunity, we now seek a highly motivated and experienced attorney to serve as Legal Counsel in the Chicago office. This full time position will report to the Chicago-based General Counsel and work closely with management and the commercial and legal teams.

This position contributes to our success by fulfilling the roles of deal maker, craftsman, and influencer.  As a deal maker, your charge is to negotiate and document sustainable, compliant relationships with customers and vendors.  You will project-manage against timelines, outpace the town gossip with your timely communications and escalations, and take pride in your creative solutions that resolve contractual issues while protecting Mintel’s critical interests.  As a craftsman, you will relish the detail in and production of your timely written work and satisfy your conscientious bent by making recommendations based on good precedent, research, and analysis.  As an influencer, you will win over the thinking of colleagues and opposite counsel by your thorough understanding of deal context and goals, cogent explanation of applicable law, and good humor.

What you’ll be doing:

• Preparing, reviewing, negotiating, and processing commercial legal agreements, including license agreements, MSAs, NDAs, DPAs, and sundry other commercial arrangements
• Developing further and managing legal processes and practices, including knowledge management and a library of legal forms, for contracting and privacy matters
• Performing research for and counseling management on commercial contracting, privacy, and soft intellectual property matters
• Counseling management on compliance and risk mitigation strategies
• Analyzing and advising regarding the application of, and compliance with, applicable state and federal laws and regulations
• Coaching and developing paralegals, but initially with no direct reports

• Highly Accredited: You have a degree from an ABA-accredited law school plus are licensed and in good standing in Illinois or eligible to waive into the Illinois bar, with a minimum of 5 years' relevant experience in a corporate or law firm setting.
• Business-Minded: You have sound, business-sensitive judgment and project management skills, with proven experience with commercial contracting, privacy, and soft intellectual property.
• Self-Directed: You take initiative to identify, evangelize, and systematize new efficiencies.
• Great Communicator: You have excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills. Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills a plus.
• Highly Organized: You have strong organizational skills, are highly detail-oriented, and bring an exemplary work ethic.
• Tech Savvy: You are experienced with Salesforce.com with strong MS Office skills (Word and Excel required, PowerPoint a plus), and familiarity with contract lifecycle management systems.
