Summary:
Motive Energy, based in Fountain Valley, CA does end-to-end work in the distributed and renewable energy space for Commercial and Industrial customers. Likewise, in the infrastructure industry, Motive also provides comprehensive EPC services to the telecom and wireless industry. Power systems engineers are experts in the large-scale generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power. They provide the power system research, development and analysis required to integrate renewable technologies into the grid. They also design DC off grid Microgrids for the telecom and wireless industry.
They may conceive, direct, or implement commercial and utility-scale solar power projects; evaluate the efficiency and safety of existing solar power systems; and collaborate with construction engineers to oversee installation. Power engineers prepare and study technical drawings, specifications of electrical systems, and topographical maps for installation; Compute and establish manufacturing, construction, and installation specifications; Monitor installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications; Plan and implement research methodology and procedures to apply principles of electrical theory to engineering projects.
Responsibilities:
- Design solar PV systems, battery storage systems, off-grid Microgrid and electric vehicle charging systems. Develop full construction drawing sets and engineering specifications for each project.
- Develop single-line and three-line diagrams with required electrical details in accordance with NEC, IEEE, utility interconnection tariffs and requirements.
- Review and implement interconnection standards and ensure compliance. Prepare
interconnection application packages and setup load flow and dynamic models. - Develop detailed equipment specifications and bill of material.
- Design collection systems, including cable routing and cable sizing.
- Manage and perform system studies for protective device coordination and the following explorations: short circuit, arc flash, load flows, ampacity, grounding, harmonic, and power quality.
- Visit project sites to assess and document site dimensions, electrical systems, EVCS / ESS / Solar PV location and utility interconnection options.
- Gain deep knowledge of PV system components, and Balance of Systems (BOS), ESS, DC Gensets, and EVCS.
- Interact with electrical contractors and clients on job sites to answer questions, review change requests, revise designs as needed to accommodate unanticipated field conditions.
- Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes.
- Respond to contractor submittals, AHJ reviews, and RFIs according to project requirements, codes, client goals, and our business interest.
- Write persuasive documents describing facility improvement opportunities and solutions. Present findings clearly and professionally to peers and clients
- Develop and/or maintain a network of vendor technology partners offering innovative DER solutions and regularly integrate different DER components into customer solutions..
Technical Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience.
- Knowledge of electrical design theory and concepts.
- Strong knowledge of electrical principles, low and medium voltage distribution design, and protection and relaying design.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to quickly read and understand construction plans and schematics.
- Knowledge of current NEC code.
Preferred education and training level:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with a power system focus (preferred)
- 5 years of experience in distribution, utility, and DER interconnection
- Demonstrate a practical and functional knowledge of national and municipal codes.
