Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) - Rooted in San Francisco’s Mission District, MEDA is advancing a national equity movement by building Latino prosperity, community ownership, and civic power. MEDA is advancing strategies to create economic prosperity for San Francisco’s Latino families and in the Mission District through multiple strategies including asset and wealth building. Within the department of Asset Building Programs, MEDA provides culturally and linguistically competent services to low and moderate-income Latino families and other populations. Programs include Financial Capability (financial coaching, public benefits, financial products), Housing Opportunities (affordable rental, homebuying, foreclosure prevention), Workforce Development (vocational training, career coaching, digital access), Taxes (tax filing, ITINs), and other special initiatives (cooperative development, public health engagement, eviction defense). 


POSITION OVERVIEW

As the Director of Asset Building Programs you will be a key leader within MEDA and will support and lead the development, management, and evaluation of MEDA’s direct service programs, staff, and partnerships including integrated Financial Capability, Free Tax and ITIN preparation, Housing Opportunities, and Workforce Development.  You report to the Vice President of Asset Building Program and are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department, supervision of managers and associate director, and implementation and compliance of services for both MEDA and funder expectations.  The Director of Asset Building Programs is a strong people and project leader who uses data and business matrices to develop and carry out impactful and efficient processes, service delivery models, and tools, and successfully achieve community results.  You will also develop and nurture key strategic partnerships with other MEDA programs as well as individuals and organizations within the San Francisco community.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Engage in audacious leadership and guidance for managers to implement asset-building programs, including financial capability, tax preparation, housing, workforce development, and special projects.
  • Collaborate with Development to create and implement funding strategies, ensuring alignment with program goals.
  • Represent the organization in meetings, conferences, and forums with stakeholders and funders.
  • Assist in annual budget preparation and monitoring, ensuring compliance with funding and program guidelines, and managing fund drawdowns and expenses.
  • Foster integration and collaboration across departments, facilitating communication and joint initiatives for program enhancement.
  • Supervise, guide, and coach managers and associate director toward achieving program outcomes, offering leadership to all of the program teams.
  • Work with Development; Evaluation; and Risk Management and Compliance departments to set strategic goals for programs, assisting in their incorporation into annual plans.
  • Monitor industry trends to keep programs relevant and effective, focusing on asset building and the needs of the community served.
  • Lead the financial coaching model, overseeing program updates, training, and development focused on wealth building for the Latino community.
  • Handle escalated client issues, support quality assurance and compliance audits, lead cross-program initiatives, contribute to fundraising and policy efforts, ensure compliance with key licenses, and manage timely grant reporting and invoicing.


To perform successfully in this role, you will need to leverage these key qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; Master’s degree in nonprofit management, public policy, business, sociology, or a related area a plus;
  • Excellent, demonstrated management skills with a track record of successfully leading teams to successful results and impact;
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with community-informed program design and service delivery;
  • Strong background partnering with various stakeholders: community partners, local government, and funders;
  • 5 years experience in working directly in asset building programs including housing, workforce, and/or financial capability services;
  • 5 years experience in staff and team supervision;
  • 5 years experience in high-volume program design and management;
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and strategic decision-making skills;
  • Experience living and/or working with communities of color, immigrant and historically low-income communities;
  • Commitment to championing MEDA’s mission and programs, specifically Latino wealth building;
  • Bilingual in Spanish is required.
