Summary/Objective
Create traditional, computer generated, and three-dimensional artwork, as well as creative direction for a wide variety of MDC publications and exhibits.
Essential Job Duties
- Create full color and black and white artwork and illustrations, which encompass historic, humorous, educational, scientific and realistic subjects for a variety of media, including magazines, websites, posters, prints, books, murals and exhibits.
- Create photo illustrations and manipulate photographs and artwork in Adobe photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
- Provide creative direction and input to designers, editors, and photographers.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Graphic Design, or related.
- Two years of art production experience.
- Must maintain a valid, current driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to use a variety of mediums to create artwork and illustrations including acrylic paints, oil paints, watercolor paints, pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, pastel chalks and computer generated bitmapped and vector artwork.
- Ability to create realistic, eye-catching and biologically accurate wildlife art.
- Ability to do thorough and detailed research on subjects to most accurately depict them in artwork.
- Ability to create kid friendly artwork, including artwork of a cartoony and humorous nature, while still being biologically accurate.
- Ability to provide engaging programs to school children and the public.
- Ability to use office equipment, such as copier, multi-line phone system, fax machine, scanner, and computer.
- Advanced Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator skills.
- Ability to use large format scanners and printers.
- General knowledge of outdoors skills.
- Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with Department staff and the public.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in a standard office environment.
- Occasionally perform outdoors where wet, hot, cold and/or humid conditions exist.
Physical Abilities
- Remain in a stationary position up to 70% of the time.
- Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
- Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
- Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
- Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more.
- Three-dimensional vision- ability to judge distance and space relationships.
- Regularly lift up to 10 pounds, correctly lift up to 25 pounds.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Exemption Status/Special Notes
