Job Description
  • Develop inspection standards, safe work methods, and decontamination procedures for authorized users of radioactive materials based on current scientific literature and best practices
  • Consult with authorized users of radioactive materials regarding their experiment or general use of radioactive material assisting them in defining and alleviating potential hazards
  • Supervise radiation monitoring / dosimetry program for personnel and direct monitoring of reactor areas and laboratories
  • Instruct and advise technical support staff in principles and regulations related to radiation hazards
  • Perform radiation and contamination surveys per requirements of S&T Radioactive Material License and analyze results
  • Conduct training and demonstrations on the safe use and handling of radioactive material, protective equipment and detection and measuring devices
  • Maintain instrument inventory preparing requisition orders as needed including calibration of equipment
  • Ship and receive all campus radioactive material
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related/relevant area and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in health physics
    • Three years of experience in applied health physics
    • Four years of experience in laboratory and/or research activities
    • Experience working in a university or higher education
    • Supervisory experience
    • A professional certification in an appropriate area of expertise (e.g. CIH, CHP, CSP, CHMM, etc.)
    • A valid driver's license may be required
    • Ability to wear respiratory protection
