SUMMARY:
The manager leads and manages the accounting team in the organization, in order to ensure the entire operation of accounting activities including closing, reporting (both standalone and the consolidated package), budget/forecast, internal/external audit, IT system and proper tax filings by having close coordination with other members in the division and the company.
The manager also takes initiatives to establish both short-term and mid-term strategy for the development and betterment of the team and its operations, by identifying areas of improvement, securing necessary resources, standardizing and documenting its operation across commodities, and supporting team members and other sin the organization for individual growth. Its responsibility includes overall support to CFO by independently handling operational matters as well as actively proposing ways to improve productivity of the overall division and the company.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage the accounting operation in the division including prompt and necessary reporting to CFO and other management in the organization
- Manage direct reports to productively implement daily, weekly and monthly tasks, including but not limited to:
- Ensure timely and accurate Monthly/Quarterly/Yearly closing under IFRS
- Provide data for the companys monthly report with reconciliation between trade PL and accounting PL
- Manage Quarterly report to HQ (on a consolidated basis)
- Support annual budget and forecast activities in cooperation with Front office, Middle office
- Make proper assessment and coordination with internal and external auditors with respect to the periodical audits, and implement actions for improvement if identified
- Manage tax return preparation and support timely and accurate tax filling with tax advisors
- Manage ETRM and Accounting related system issues
- Conduct proper accounting treatments study including hedge accounting for new or complex deals under IFRS
- Manage and continue ongoing relationships and lead Interactions with external counterparties, Accounting, IT, Trading, Marketing, Operations, Risk, and other Mitsui companies
- Take initiatives to standardize and document the procedures applying best practices across businesses
- Actively help CFO design the ST/MT strategy of the team, the division and the company for the development and betterment by identifying issues and securing necessary resources
- Train and support individual growth of subordinates and junior members in the organization
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Deep understanding of industrial accounting practice across all commodities (i.e. Natural Gas, Oil, Power, NGL/Uranium and the relevant products) under IFRS/IAS, especially with fair-value recognition and hedge accounting under IFRS9
- Capable of supervising multiple resources in the team, empowering subordinates and keeping good communication with others across the organization
- Ability to work independently and proactively
- Strong in problem-solving and making decision under pressure
- Ability to design business processes or strategy to improve productivity of the team and the organization
- Ability to analyze large sets of financial data
- High awareness to details and accuracy in numbers
- Proficiency with appropriate training with third party software licensed to the Company such as Allegro, Oracle or other applications necessary to execute accounting operation
- Oracle and Allegro experience is a plus
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 9 years of accounting experience in energy trading industry including use of any ETRM platform required, 11 years preferred
- Accounting degree (Bachelor or higher), or related degree required
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Fluent verbal and written skills in English
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:
- CPA (preferred)
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Physical demands include:
- Prolonged periods of sitting and may need to routinely move around to communicate with different groups
- Occasionally work late to meet with Tokyo office, meet closing deadline
