With growth in their sites, acquiring new business and maximizing CI opportunities at the Tiffin location, our client is hiring a Plant Manager. As the Plant Manager, you will develop and coach your direct and indirect reports in operations and quality adding additional areas of responsibility in the near future. Your daily responsibilities include:
- Coach, mentor and develop current direct and indirect reports to exceed their individual goals
- Improve the pace of accountability and management by improving communication with daily/weekly meetings and updates
- Participate in sales and operations weekly meetings
- Review delivery standards, including evaluating the on-time delivery, product flow and what is the challenge in getting product out the door in a timely manner
- Identify process improvements and initiate group participation on CI activity
- Oversee project management, including plant layout and driving change and improvements on the floor production floor
- Ensure sustainability by making sure that areas are operating consistently
- Maintain and improve communication on plant projects, including getting with internal partners on ensuring that plant projects and CI activities run smoothly and are well planned
- Work with the scheduling team to improve the scheduling process, by understanding the “big picture” and capacity
- Hold supervisors accountable and maintain consistent management practices
- Lead CAPEX projects. Ensure that the due diligence has been done on the research and justification, determine the most cost-effective scenario and communicate with additional departments to ensure a smooth purchase and transition
- Develop your leadership team and create a succession plan for current staff and any potential new hires
- Infuse character, passion and charisma into the position, be a strong leader and act as the change agent for the floor and production
- Value the data that is provided by reviewing and understanding score cards, reviewing each individual work center and running necessary reports to determine how to move forward with improvements, scrap reductions and cost savings
- Ensure that key performance indicators are in place, work on monitoring and improvement of the KPIs
- Have a passion for systems excellence and creating manufacturing centers of excellence
- Other duties as directed by management
The company is seeking a candidate that enjoys spending up to 50-70% of their day on the manufacturing floor. Candidates should feel comfortable being a "Change Agent", able to take ownership of their plant, lead by example, coach and mentor their staff and have the ability to hold others accountable. The qualified individual will be passionate about continuous improvement, establishing consistent processes and meeting KPIs based on data-driven information. REQUIREMENTS for the Plant Manager:
1. A bachelor's degree is required, ideally in operations, engineering or supply chain
2. At least five years of similar manufacturing operations management experience
3. Experience overseeing direct and indirect reports
4. Experience overseeing multiple facets of manufacturing (production, maintenance, engineering, quality, etc.)
5. Experience overseeing a multi-shift production environment
6. A proven track record of making measurable continuous improvement efforts
7. Project management experience of timelines and budgets
8. ERP experience
9. Microsoft Office skills, including Word and Excel
Skills preferred but NOT required:
1. Formal Lean and/or Six Sigma training or certifications
2. Metal working experience
