What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head of Design position at MOD?

ABOUT
MOD’s Design Department is a multi-faceted team of dreamers and doers who bring our clients’ brands to life through exceptional creative content. As the Head of Design, you will be responsible for managing and directing the design team and their output. You will be a champion for creative excellence, build exceptional client relationships, provide visionary leadership and inspiration while balancing design feedback and communicating actionable direction to the team to drive results. As the Head of Design, you are responsible for developing concepts, determining how to represent them visually, and presenting to clients.
The Head of Design reports to the Executive Creative Director (ECD).
WHAT YOU WILL DO…
The Head of Design has three areas of responsibility.
Design Leadership
- Provide visionary leadership to the design team, inspiring and guiding them to produce innovative, compelling, and effective creative
- Manage and mentor a team of 10 design professionals
- Inspire the design team to create more advanced and better work using brainstorming sessions, team meetings, and other strategic tools
- Partner with the Account and Project Management teams to determine timelines and resource designers based on skillset and availability
- Provide constructive feedback, conduct performance evaluations, and foster a collaborative and positive work environment. Inspire design team members to be engaged, organized, and self-sufficient
- Embody MOD’s values and champion them to the design team in support of team health
Design Oversight
- Oversee the concepts and campaigns for the design department, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines
- Maintain high standards of design excellence and accountability, using best practices to guide teams through the creative process and ensure accurate, error-free creative execution within agreed timelines
- Maintain consistency over the quality and aesthetic merit of the design team’s output
- Protect visual storytelling across the concepting and production phases
- Represent and uphold MOD’s aesthetic throughout the department, including client work, presentations, trainings, and employee development
- Responsible for overseeing the design layout and visual impact of various design projects
- Provide designers with visual direction before they start a project and assist designers in written explanations of creative projects
Design Execution
- Develop he overall style for projects and communicate design thinking to the team
- Collaborate with other creatives to develop creative concepts and executions
- Be knowledgeable of how to design and oversee print and digital projects in various mediums
YOUR CREDENTIALS
- 10 years of broad creative and management experience with at least a minimum of 5 years in an agency setting
- Proven ability to lead, empower and develop a group of design professionals
- Ability to manage projects and programs in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- A strong collaborator who can effectively manage opposing viewpoints, productively take and respond to feedback, and communicate actionable next steps to the working team
- A strong portfolio demonstrating design excellence and experience as both a maker of great work and an instigator of it
- Solution-oriented, problem-solving mentality and innovative approach to solving challenges
- Must be an excellent presenter, with great written and oral communication skills
- Exceptional ability in typography and layout
- Expert in Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
