This position is responsible for traveling with the mobile dental van throughout the state of Oregon improving oral health for Oregon’s children. Under supervision of dentist provide chairside assisting, EFDA duties, administrative duties, and patient and classroom education.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a 38-foot-long, state-of-the-art mobile dental van. Van is based out of Portland, OR and travels the state of Oregon in assist children with their dental needs. Must be able to work with different dentists and be able to adjust to a right or left-handed dentist. Assistant will work with patients of varying ethnic backgrounds, bilingual skills a plus. Flexibility and adaptability are essential.
Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, though not constant, physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks will require sound, depth, and odor perception and differentiation.
Environmental Factors: Position is in clinical environment with potential exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, radiation, and other conditions common to a clinical environment. Assistant will need to be current on all immunizations.
General: Compliant with all applicable federal, state, and local rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures regarding the provision of clinical dental care and personnel issues, workplace safety, public health and confidentiality.

Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited dental assisting course or have dental assisting experience.
- EFDA (Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary) certification, Radiological certification, CPR certification or willing to obtain certification, and ability to monitor Nitrous Oxide.
- X-Ray certification required, digital experience a plus.
- Ability to work flexible hours and to travel the State of Oregon extensively on an ongoing basis.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with children of all ages and interact in a professional manner.
- Dental practice management software experience.
- Ability to complete charting when procedures are concluded.
- BLS for Healthcare providers.
- Ability to interact professionally, patiently, and courteously.
- Strong organizational and detail orientation skills.
- Ability to speak a second language helpful.
- Ability to work well under pressure with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities in a fast-paced clinic.
- Maintain confidentiality and project a professional business image.
- Maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license.
Primary Functions:
- Prepares mobile van for transport and operation, involves daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of van and/or other mobile clinic items.
- Prepares treatment areas, includes disinfecting and sterilization of instruments.
- Provide chairside assistance during procedures.
- Prepares patients by taking digital x-rays, including exposing and developing radiographs.
- Perform EFDA duties.
- Record patient visit via electronic dental charting
- Disinfecting and sterilization of instruments after each patient
- Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols
- Maintain the operatory room and instruments
- Maintains dental supplies inventory; places orders for supplies; verifies receipt of supplies
- Participate in health education activities
- Assists with record keeping, patient chart scanning and other duties as assigned when Tooth Taxi not in service (could include providing assistance at the Dental Foundation of Oregon relevant to Tooth Taxi).
- Perform other duties as assigned
