ACTIVITY COORDINATOR (PT)
MODERN MATURITY CENTER – DOVER, DE
Monday – Thursday -- 8:00 am to 2:30 pm
(paid vacation and sick time)
SUMMARY
The Activity Coordinator plans, organizes and conducts group and individual activities such as games, arts and crafts, entertainment, community trips and socialization for an early memory loss program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participates with the Director and team in planning and implementing a social/reactional program.
- Manages and supervises daily program, members, aides, volunteers and interns at all times.
- Helps schedule and participates in staff meetings.
- Facilitates individual and group activities.
- When necessary, documents client activity, participation and response.
- Observes client progress and reports to Director any changes or difficulties.
- Oversees and assists clients with basic care as needed.
- Is present at welcome and dismissal times for clients.
- Supervises team in setting up and relocating clients for lunch/snacks, checking supplies and organizing workshops, speakers, activities, safety cueing, and etc.
- Assists clients to designated areas for meals and other activities.
- Assists with supervision of clients at all times.
- Assists in emergency situations.
- Performs other related duties as specified by Director, i.e. assists with keeping office area tidy, cleaning refrigerator, kitchen shelves, sweeping floor, and etc.
- Orders supplies for various activities and functions.
- Plans and implements monthly and daily activities.
- Organizes and rearranges office space and materials as needed.
- Is able to multi-task and anticipate possible changes in client behaviors and needs.
- Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one-year experience creating and supervising activities and working with older persons, preferably with mentally (regarding memory loss and cognition), physically and/or emotionally impaired individuals in a social and/or therapeutic setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE ABILITY
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to learn reality orientation and re-motivation techniques.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Some computer competency skill required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Able to direct overall execution of the daily program and to oversee and direct volunteers, interns, assistant, and client interactions and interventions, with input from Director when necessary.
