The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management in our Department of Public Safety. The Assistant Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management serves as primary back up and support to the Executive Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management and will carry out responsibilities as directed in absence of the Executive Director. This position assists the Executive Director regarding procedures, policies, and protocols that pertain to security operations, law enforcement operations, emergency management and the supervision of uniformed staff and supervisors. The Assistant Director manages daily law enforcement operations and is authorized to act on behalf of the Executive Director in his or her absence.
Key responsibilities for this position include:
- Assists the Executive Director in the supervision of the operations of the Department of Public Safety;
- Manages all campus Public Safety and Emergency Operations in the absence of the Executive Director;
- Manages budget, purchasing and payroll considerations in the absence of the Executive Director;
- Manages Clery compliance and Title IX compliance within the Department of Public Safety;
- Manages all disciplinary actions in the absence of the Executive Director;

Serves as a principal resource for uniformed personnel with regards to law and policy;
Manages the recruitment, selection and training of Senior Public Safety Officers and Supervising Public Safety Officers; - Monitors progress on ongoing investigations and working toward prompt and successful resolution of same;
- Assists the Executive Director in the review, development, and maintenance of department’s Manual of Rules and Regulations;
- Assists the Executive Director with managing relationship with outside law enforcement;
- Formulates and proposes preventive security measures to enhance the safety and security of campus constituents;
- Assists the Executive Director in assessing the job performance of uniformed personnel as requested;
- Performs other duties related to this job description as assigned by the Executive Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice or a related field and five (5) years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer
- Three (3) years of supervisory (Sergeant or above) experience
- Possession of a valid certification as a Campus Peace Officer or Police Officer
- Possession of a valid NYS driver's license
- Possession of a valid NYS Pistol Permit
- Certification of NYS Department of Criminal Justice Supervisor’s Training
- Certification of NYS Department of Criminal Justice Instructor Development Course
- Certification of ICS 100, ICS 200 and ICS 300
- Strong knowledge of the current trends and developments within the field of campus public safety and emergency management
- Strong knowledge of the principles and techniques associated with the investigation of criminal and civil incidents
- Strong knowledge of the principles of basic law enforcement functions including traffic management, crowd control, property access control, and crime prevention
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form within the department and with other campus constituencies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Familiarity of Records Management System (RMS) systems
- Familiarity with TraCS
- Familiarity with CCTV systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in campus-based law enforcement and emergency management with evidence of progressive growth in responsibilities
- Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role
- Experience with criminal investigations and their application in a campus environment
- Experience with investigating sexual assault cases and corollary experience with Title IX investigations of sexual harassment
- Strong background with Clery compliance
- Strong background in the development and presentations of campus safety to a student/parent audience
- Strong interpersonal communications skills
- Demonstrated leadership ability
