Due to internal growth within the organization, we are currently seeking a Accounting/Payroll Specialist to join our team in Port Washington. This position is responsible for processingweekly/bi-weekly payroll, with cross-over functions within the Accounting Department. Reporting directly to the Controller, you must possess a high degree of confidentiality and be able to work independently in a time sensitive environment.
Role and Responsibilities
· Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
· Reconciles and prepares tax deposits, quarterly/yearly government filings.
· Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
· Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
· Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
· Identifies and recommends updates to payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures.
· Posts and reconciles Accounts Receivable cash receipts.
· Processes customer credit applications and sets up new customers in ERP system.
· Contacts customers regarding past due invoices.
· Processes low volume subsidiary transactions (invoicing, timecard entry, cash receipts) in QuickBooks.
· Serves as a fully cross-trained member of the accounting department capable of assisting as needed with Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Inventory, and Fixed Assets.
· Provides support in company’s conversion to new ERP system.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Associate Degree in Accounting required, Bachelors preferred
2-3 years’ experience in processing payroll
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Preferred Skills
· Must possess a high degree of confidentiality and be able to work independently in a time sensitive environment
· High degree of competency using payroll software and processing accounting transactions in ERP systems
· Must be able to communicate well with others, both internally and externally
· Paychex experience a plus
