Job Description

Following Standard Operating Procedures, relevant regulations, and directives of the

laboratory leadership team, an LS will:

 Work in a team environment and independently after training as necessary.

 Work within all State and Federal guidelines, including compliance with

CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, OSHA, and other safety guidelines.

 Must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.

 Follow all company policies and procedures: General Policies, Exposure

Control Plan, Biohazard Control Plan, Quality Control Plan, and Quality

Assurance Program.

 Communicate with co-workers to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.

 Process patient samples in a high-complexity laboratory environment using

independent judgment with minimal supervision. This includes, but is not

limited to:

  • Proper handling of medical records and test results.
  • Organize and catalog specimens.
  • DNA/RNA extraction.
  • Assist and perform PCR testing.
  • Participate in routine laboratory tasks and other duties as assigned.
  • Perform setup, teardown, and preventative maintenance on laboratory

equipment.

  • Perform quality control procedures.
  • Prepare reagents for the laboratory.
  • Archive and retrieve patient specimens.
  • Perform qualification protocols for recently repaired instruments.
  • Document any procedure deviations or instrumentation malfunctions.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or

reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately

notify the laboratory leadership team.

  • Follow protocols and document corrective actions taken when

instruments deviate from established performance specifications.

  • Assist our team in developing and validating new instrumentation

and/or assays (not a primary function of the position).

  • Adhere to the laboratory quality control policies.

Education and Experience

A successful LS candidate will possess:

 Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field, OR

an Associate’s in Applied Science Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology.

 Work experience in a clinical laboratory is preferred but not required.

 Experience with laboratory operations and procedures.

 A working understanding of good laboratory practices and regulatory

compliance.

 The ability to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced and evolving work

environment.

 The ability to work diligently with minimal supervision.

 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 Basic computer proficiency.

 Punctuality.

 Positive, patient-focused attitude.

 Professionalism.

 Accurate pipetting skills.

 Attention to detail.

 Ability to manage change.

 Ability to carry 20 lbs. in weight.
