The Headlines:

In the role of Assistant General Counsel – Sales & Regulatory working in Chicago, Illinois, you will be part of the Americas Legal team, providing support to the US sales division and the overall company. The role is responsible for managing the legal and regulatory aspects related to the sale of established beer brands and the introduction of disruptive brand offerings in wine, spirits, and non-alcohol beverages. The role also aids in drafting, negotiating, and implementing complex commercial transactions. In this role, you’ll work closely with the company’s sales, regions, pricing, distributor network development, commercial center of excellence, government affairs, tax, and compliance teams.

The Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic legal support for sales & distribution, regulatory, government affairs, and excise tax issues
  • Advise the company on regulatory, marketing, pricing, distribution, and other challenges in the entry into new brand categories including wine, distilled spirits, and non-alcohol beverages
  • Draft, negotiate, and implement complex distribution, licensing, supply, and other commercial arrangements
  • Support new product introductions and research and development projects
  • Advise the company on privacy and marketing compliance for the company’s eCommerce programming
  • Develop knowledge and skills in alcohol beverage law compliance to support field sales and alcohol beverage trade practices work
  • Manage a team by providing training, oversight, and guidance and building a culture of engagement
The Other Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree required, with excellent academic achievement
  • 7-10 years of relevant legal experience, with a strong preference for 5 years of in-house practice, and experience negotiating and drafting complex commercial agreements, managing teams, and working in a regulated industry
  • Candidate must be highly analytical and have exceptional business and legal issue-identification and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and process skills, thought leadership, business perspective, and ability to interact with senior levels of management and staff
  • Demonstrated outstanding judgment and a track record of cross-functional work and serving as a key member of a complex organization
  • Solid understanding of relevant anti-bribery and corruption and competition regulations applicable to multi-national companies
