POSITION SUMMARY
- Prepares food for patients’ trays in accordance with an established schedule and procedures.
- Prepares and dishes quality food accurately and attractively according to diet and menu.
- Assist with set-up, service and clean-up of food production.
- Prepares quality hot foods and beverages for in-patients, the cafeteria, and special functions, following the menu cycle and production schedule.
- Assists with menus, questions, complaints and concerns, with compassion. Provides special request foods as requested.
- Understands modified diets and is a team player in working toward patient nutritional well-being.
- Assist with food preparation for special functions.
- Maintain adequate quantities of food, ensuring high quality, freshness, and an appetizing presentation.
- Maintains kitchen sanitation and safety standards.
- Ensure proper sanitation and storage of kitchen equipment, food and supplies.
- Monitor food temperatures to ensure they are maintained at proper levels during preparation and throughout service.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with state, local, and regulatory agencies as it relates to food service.
- Become familiar with other cafeteria functions as appropriate.
- Act as backup support for positions in the cafeteria when necessary.
- Maintain current knowledge of diets commonly used in a healthcare setting.
- Maintains department logs.
- Answers the telephone and relay messages, as necessary.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Completion of a formal training program in food preparation is preferred.
- Knowledge of basic principles of nutrition as related to modified diets is preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum one (1) year of food service experience in quantity food preparation / production in a hospital, extended care facility, or other quality food service operation preferred.
- Previous experience of food preparation in a hospital is preferred.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools is typically used in a commercial kitchen.
