Job Summary
Under the oversight of the System Corporate Compliance Officer, the System Privacy Officer supports system-wide compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act’s (HIPAA) Privacy Rule and other privacy-related federal and state regulations. The System Privacy Officer is involved in all activities related to the operation of Mon Health’s privacy program and furthers Mon Health’s commitment to protecting the privacy of patient and other confidential information. This position serves as the individually accountable Privacy Officer of record for Mon Health and its subordinate entities, and is responsible for the assessment, implementation and ongoing management of the all privacy program components. This position requires an in-depth understanding of federal and state privacy laws and regulations, as well as Mon Health’s business and operational practices. The individual must communicate with and provide formal reports to Mon Health’s executive leaders and governance. This position works closely with Internal Audit, Human Resources, Health Information Management, Legal Services and Information Security Officers.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration or related field required; Master’s degree or Juris Doctor degree (J.D.) preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Privacy Officer, preferably in a complex, multi-entity, geographically diverse health care environment.
- Must have experience in HIPAA Privacy auditing, conducting investigations, monitoring standards, regulatory compliance, or related experience in a healthcare field.
- Certification in Health Care Privacy, Certification in Health Care Privacy and Security within first year of employment required.
- Must possess strong planning, organizational, and project management skills, problem-solving and analytical skills, interpersonal and oral/written communication skills, people and process management skills, and skills in personal diplomacy.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, management, other key stakeholders and outside parties including external auditors, government agency representatives, vendors, legal representatives, and operations management.
- Ability to work independently without close supervision.
