You lead the plan-do-check-act (PDCA) process of the site quality management system and report results to the quality section manager.
How you will contribute
You will support elements of the site’s quality system, including internal documentation and change management control including quality policies amendments and registration of internal and external documentation, internal audits, effective PDCA cycles and CAPA system management and management review. In addition, you will coordinate the eQCMS bi-annual review, handle consumer complaints from start to finish, and serve as a key contact for food regulatory agency inspection and contacts management.

What you need to know about this position:
Under the direction of the Sr. Lab Supervisor and Quality Manager, the Lab Coordinator performs analytical testing and manages Quality/Food Safety programs to support Toledo Flour Mill Quality and Operations. The lab coordinator will: Lead and support routine and nonroutine laboratory testing on 2nd and 3rd shifts; train and assure compliance on key food safety procedures; Lead Integrated Lean 6 Sigma (IL6S) work process to drive continuous improvement and statistical process control.
This position is Full Time and flexibility is a must. Applicants should be available to work evening/night shifts, rotating weekend coverage, and overtime as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
- Manage lab workflow and assign duties to lab technicians on 2nd and 3rd shifts as needed, and support Lab Supervisor in the management of 3rd party requests and outside samples for testing
- Carry out lab analyses, including advanced chemical and analytical procedures relative to flour and wheat quality control for Mondelez, according to documented and approved analytical procedures
- Assist in developing new analytical procedures, enhances and troubleshoots existing procedures, and compiles documentation for both, as needed by Mondelez Toledo mill QC laboratory. Perform MSAs (Measurement System Analyses) as required to assure repeatability and reproducibility of lab equipment and procedures
- Manage off-shift lab operations with 2 lab technician
- Drive continuous improvement with ownership of Quality Management Pillar work processes, including loss analysis and process control through use of control charting and SPC
- Support quality and food safety through ownership of key programs, including reviewing and assessing compliance, and revising programs as needed
- Conduct trainings as needed, including training on laboratory procedures within the lab and food safety topics plantwide
- Provide leadership during off-shift, ensuring communication with other departments, addressing quality-related issues that arise
- Conduct root cause analyses as needed, including documenting and communicating and identifying/documenting corrective actions
- Create and send COAs, and provide customer support as needed
- Participate in laboratory and plant safety programs, demonstrating safety first as a value and leading in compliance with company policies regarding safety and environmental issues
Education / Certifications:
Bachelor's Degree (science/food science related field preferred)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Science related field preferred)
- 2-3 years’ experience performing laboratory work
- Knowledge of Quality Systems, Procedures, and Policies
- Ability to analyze data, proven record demonstrating ability to effectively problem solve
- Strong Continuous Improvement mindset
- Excellent Computer (MS Office) and Communication Skills (Oral and Written)
- Knowledge of HACCP and food safety systems
- At least 1 year in a food production environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a science, food science, or agricultural science
- Experience in the use of statistical concepts in the control of manufacturing operations
- 3 years with previous laboratory experience with food or grain analysis
- 3 years in a food production environment
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, TPM, or similar system
Work schedule:
This position is 2nd shift Monday-Friday, with some weekend work and variation in shift hours depending on need.
