Job Title: NIR LAB Technician
Business Unit: 11503110
Locations: Morgan Hill
Reports To: Senior Grower
Work Schedule: Generally 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Monday to Friday, subject to change depending on Department needs and workload.
Position Type: Full-Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
About the Role: This is a full-time position with excellent benefits. This position will be responsible for collecting compost samples and raw materials, scanning the samples using a Near Infrared Scanner (NIR), and collecting and organizing the data collected. This position will also be responsible for communicating this information to growing staff, and the NIR Coordinator
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This position will be responsible for scanning materials using a Near Infrared Scanner (NIR). This material will include mushroom compost, the raw materials used for mushroom compost production, and other materials as needed
- Sampling of raw materials and compost.
- Must be able to follow all SOPs for sampling and NIR scanning.
- Maintenance of the analytical database for the farm.
- Communication of data to farm and Lab personnel.
- Regular and consistent attendance for daily collection of data.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
- Preparation of analytical reports.
- Work closely with growing staff, and report compost formulation changes to NIR Coordinator.
- Assist farm with using analytical data to make crop decision.
- Other projects as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITY:
- None
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
- Ability to adhere closely to SOPs for data collection and sampling methods.
- Proven abilities to work independently and productively with limited supervision, and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
- Self-motivation, multitasking skills, and ability to work as a highly collaborative team member are essential.
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- High school diploma.
- Experience working with Microsoft Excel and Access
Desired:
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access.
- Strong interest in science or mushroom growing.
- Some experience with materials analysis.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
- Steel toe safety shoes/boots
- Safety Vest
The role generally works in an office environment, however when visiting the farm/packing facilities this role will be required to use appropriate food safety and workers safety equipment such as hearing protection, hairnet, helmet, smock, etc., as required by the location.
