Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Monument Academy Board of Directors, the Executive Director (E.D.) serves as the highest administrator at Monument Academy (MA). The E.D. is cumulatively responsible for all aspects of organizational health, including but not limited to: enacting the school’s vision/mission; overseeing the realization of the school’s goals and outcomes; meeting the school’s fundraising and other financial goals; maintaining CDE accreditation; guiding the school’s professional culture; being accountable to the school’s authorizer; continuing the tradition of partnership and transparency with the parent/guardian community, and managing finances, development, and human resources. The E.D. is ultimately responsible for executing all programs and procedures in alignment with the school’s mission and vision. The E.D. will support, enforce, and uphold Monument Academy Board of Directors policies and governing decisions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following statements of duties, responsibilities, frequency, and percentages describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. Essential duties and responsibilities may vary depending on campus needs and other factors.
Enacting Mission and Vision - Maintain alignment between all programs and the overall vision, mission, and core values of Monument Academy.
Organizational Leadership - As the chief executive of MA, the E.D. is responsible for organizational wide leadership. Supervise and work with the MA Leadership Team to develop, maintain, and enhance all aspects of Monument Academy to ensure positive outcomes for students and a strong, collaborative, professional culture. This includes effective delegation, training, development, and staff support, establishing performance requirements, and evaluating staff supervision.
Strategic Planning and Implementation - Maintain alignment between the school’s mission/vision and the policies and strategic direction of Monument Academy’s Board of Directors. Consistently plan for efforts to achieve the four pillars of MA’s Strategic Plan: Academic Growth and Excellence, Financial Health, Talent Initiatives, and Operational Development.
Board of Directors Collaboration - Report to the Board and maintain a positive working relationship with the Board. It is incumbent upon the E.D. to keep the Board informed of operational, financial, and legal matters. The E.D. is expected to attend committee meetings as needed to provide input and stay informed for the health of the organization.
Internal Management - The core elements of internal management are those key pieces that flow naturally from our mission and are the measurable objectives Monument Academy has created to see our vision become a reality. The E.D. is responsible for:
- Implementation and enforcement of Board policies, rules, and regulations.
- Comply and communicate all local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Directly respond in an appropriate manner when infractions occur.
School Culture - Foster a staff culture in collaboration with school leadership that embodies the school’s core values and brings the mission/vision to life.
Financial Management - The E.D. will collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer to ensure funding is in order to resource the Board’s mission, vision and strategic plan goals. Ensure accurate financial management and oversight to guarantee that MA secures all needed revenues (including enrollment projections), stays within the board-approved budget, and effectively protects assets. Ensure compliance with all bond and debt service requirements and covenants. Ensure the financial health and longevity of the school by cultivating relationships with foundations, corporations, and individuals who provide financial support to the school. Ensure that the school meets its short and long-term fundraising goals.
Human Resources - Supports and collaborates with the human resources department to effectively and efficiently achieve the Talent Initiatives strategic plan goal which encompasses, but is not limited to, management systems, recruiting/retention objectives, and legal compliance.
Internal Communication - Implement high-quality, timely, and effective communication from and between Monument Academy Board of Directors, leadership team, staff, students, committee members, and other internal and community stakeholders.
External Partnerships and Community Outreach: The E.D. is expected to be the visible leader to the entire MA community including external stakeholders. External stakeholders include The Colorado Department of Education, regulatory agencies, the charter authorizer, and the parent/guardian community. This role includes building and maintaining trusting and positive working relationships with the aforementioned partners. Community outreach may also include advocacy at the local and state policy level.
QUALIFICATIONS
The E.D. must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications below represent the knowledge, abilities, and skills required.
- Preferred 3 years of experience in a charter school leadership role but not required
- Business and management experience inside or outside the educational field
Education and Training
- Bachelor’s, Master’s Degree, and/or Ph.D. in Education, Education Administration and/or Educational Leadership
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Business and/or Public Administration
- Licensed from Broad Academy Network Educational Leadership Management

- Bachelor’s Degree accompanied with leadership experience
Preferred (Not Required) Certificates and Licenses
- Colorado Department of Education Teacher and/or Principal License
- Colorado Department of Education Administrator License
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Preferred experience with charter schools and charter school law
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a board of directors, co-workers, volunteers, students, and parents
- Knowledge of charter school operations, Core Knowledge, Classical Education, and Capturing Kids’ Hearts (preferred but not required), and appropriate state and district school law regarding discipline
- Have experience with branding, marketing, and fundraising
- Have experience managing a complex budget, including working with restricted revenue streams and bond covenant requirements (preferred school finance experience)
- Be a highly collaborative, solution-oriented, adaptable, problem-solving self-starter who seeks feedback to continue professional growth
- Commitment to working with the leadership team that oversees student academic and personal success with differentiated and unique needs
- Interpersonal skills a high relational capacity
- Facilities growth, construction expansion and capital improvements knowledge
