Description
This position is responsible for the observation of construction and serves as the onsite representative of NDDOT projects while performing the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answers inquiries and complaints from residents and clients in a courteous and professional manner
- Coordinates on-site testing per the NDDOT Field Sampling & Testing Manual
- Inspects materials prior to installation
- Obtains measurements and thoroughly detailed progress information of construction activities
- Enters PQEs and Inspection Diaries into CARS daily as work occurs
- Becomes thoroughly familiar with the plans and special provisions for the construction project(s) assigned
- Points out potential problems to the Project Engineer
- Reads and interprets construction plans and maps
- Follows specific instructions on an independent basis
- Interprets and complies with company mandated safety policies
- Becomes familiar with the current NDDOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction and the NDDOT Construction Records Manual
- Updates Project Engineer and as needed
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum high school diploma or GED
- Minimum three years of experience in Civil Engineering or related field
- General knowledge of the construction industry
- Must have valid driver’s license and be insurable
- Ability to perform physical work (i.e. strenuous walking, lifting 50 pounds, catching basin grates and manhole covers, hauling equipment, etc.)
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to work the same hours as the contractor, up to 16 hours per day when indicated
