Summary

The Senior Copywriter will have excellent storytelling, offer development, case-for-giving, and call-to-action writing skills. The Senior Copywriter will have ten years of experience writing direct mail and multi-channel integrated fundraising campaigns with a minimum of five years of experience in an agency or related environment.



Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Creative Director and Art Directors to develop new concepts for direct mail and multi-channel campaigns for our non-profit clients.
  • Develops and delivers clear, concise, and compelling direct mail and digital fundraising copy.
  • Reviews fundraising campaign results and applies learnings.
  • Maintains consistent and compelling messaging according to individual client guidelines.
  • Works closely with account team partners to understand and effectively represent client programs and goals to donors and prospects.
  • Receives internal and client feedback well and offers elegant solutions that satisfy all constituents.
  • Supplements writing resources provided with internet research and interviews as needed.
  • Delivers a quality product in a high-volume, fast-paced agency environment.
  • Offers support to writing colleagues as needed.




Qualifications

NOTE: Qualified candidates must provide writing samples or access to a portfolio of work.

  • Ten or more years of experience producing effective direct response fundraising copy with a minimum of five years of experience in an agency environment required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, or Liberal Arts preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint.
  • Strong knowledge of direct mail concepts and multi-channel integrated strategies.
  • Strong understanding of direct response fundraising strategic and tactical best practices.
  • Can readily replicate the voice and tone of a variety of clients in different verticals.
  • Absorbs and analyzes information easily; thinks critically and holistically.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to craft authentic human-interest stories that involve the donor in creating solutions and changing lives.
  • Strong interviewing and story-gathering abilities.
  • Ability to consistently develop effective copy in a fast-paced agency environment.
  • Proven ability to meet or exceed client fundraising campaign goals.
  • Ability to improvise and create realistic composite or representative stories that accurately represent the client’s work.
  • Organized, detail oriented, able to work independently and on teams while managing multiple projects and meeting critical deadlines.
  • Other key competencies include quality management, adaptability, initiative and innovation, sound judgment, outstanding problem-solving abilities, and strong interpersonal skills.
