What you will be doing:
The Senior Accountant Provides overall department accounting support and assists with a variety of accounting functions within standard procedures in general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable or related financial area.
What we’ll expect from you:
- Assists in training, assigning, and reviewing the work of less experienced staff.
- Establishes and maintains close working relationships with Regional Managers, Property Managers and other field personnel to ensure the accounting properly reflects the operations. Function as liaison between the home office and property/regional employees. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures, as well as resolving accounting related problems, including resident ledger accounts.
- Prepares all aspects of the financial statement package, including creating and posting journal entries, detailed general ledger account review and completion of all backup schedules needed, including footnotes.
- Create and prepare subsidiary schedules including depreciation, amortization, work in process, capital and rent analysis
- Ensure all month-end processes are followed and completed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Reviews variances in financial statements and documents explanations for significant items.
- Compiles, reviews and evaluates budget information and provides feedback.
- Prepare bank reconciliations and ensure all reconciling items are resolved in a timely manner.
- Prepares management fee and construction fee management calculations and ensures related invoices are paid monthly.
- Utility analysis.
- Responsible for monthly replacement reserve and capital reserve processing.
- Reconciliation of balance sheet and P&L accounts.
- Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Ensures all debt, real estate tax and insurance payments are made in a timely manner and all work papers are updated and maintained.
- Evaluates and adheres to all accounting policies and procedures.
- Assists with special projects and due diligence as requested
- Prepares monthly cash distribution analysis and equity roll forwards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and 2-3 years related experience; or 5 year's related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages.
- Knowledge of Yardi Database software; Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software experience. Fixed asset tax depreciation software experience helpful.
