Brief Summary of Job Duties
The University is dedicated to shifting towards a model of career readiness in which all Morgan students integrate their career preparation into their academic experience.
The Career Specialist will provide students and recent alumni with effective career advising and guidance through a variety of delivery systems including individual appointments, group sessions, workshops, instructional settings, and web-based tools and information. As a member of the Center for Career Development team, the Career Specialist will participate in programs and recruitment events, perform liaison work with assigned college/departments, serve on committees and participate in program planning that supports the goals and mission of a comprehensive Center.
Essential Duties:
Provides individual/group advisement to students on career-related issues including experiential learning, full-time employment, graduate school opportunities, and other post-baccalaureate pursuits; develops and facilitates innovative workshops integrating online resources available through the Center
Provide a minimum of 3-4 student appointments per day, in a fast-paced, sometimes high-volume environment
Choose, conduct and interpret formal and informal career assessment tools to assist students in clarifying values, interests, and skills; utilize appropriate counseling/advising interventions and responses to elicit and teach decision making and goal setting
Collaborate with other departments/student services to effectively market experiential learning through outreach programming; conduct presentations to the campus community on the importance of internships
Coordinate career events targeted to the needs of your assigned schools/colleges
Assess the effectiveness of experiential learning programs; conduct assessment and follow-up studies through electronic communications, surveys, and telecommunications to track placements, determine intern conversion rate and gather salary data
Actively participate with external professional associations and groups to ensure that you remain current on best practices related to internships/workforce
Serve as point of contact for internal and external organizations
Prepare, analyze and provide reports on placement data, as requested
Requested Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of directly related work experience is required.
Other Preferences for Consideration
The preferred candidate will have a Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Human Resources or related field.
The preferred candidate will have:
Two (2) years of experience in career services, employee recruitment, career development, student services/advising, or related industry required
Ability to build relationships and influence at all levels, both internally and externally, is required
Ability to work effectively in teams, including those in a remote environment, while demonstrating excellence, integrity, inclusion, and respect required
Superior written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills are required
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and to organize workflow to meet deadlines required
Advanced work proficiently with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace required
Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity and student success required
Understanding of National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) guidelines and Career Readiness Competencies required
Familiarity and ability to interpret career assessments (MBTI, Holland’s SDS, StrengthsQuest) preferred
Familiarity with Handshake (CRM platform) preferred
