What are the responsibilities and job description for the Franchise Content Producer position at Morning Brew?

Morning Brew is a media company that covers the business news and narratives shaping our world. The companies, the people, the workplace, the economy — we nerd out on this stuff, and we’re dedicated to helping our audience navigate it all in a way that informs and entertains.

The Morning Brew team is clever, creative, and growing fast. Want in? Read on.

OVERVIEW

Katie (of Money with Katie) here.

I need your help to bring what we’re building to the next level. I love talking about how money impacts our lives and diving into the intersection of personal finance and the economy, culture, and policy, but my brain doesn’t think like a filmmaker’s.

If yours does, you might be the perfect person for this job.

We consider compelling long-form storytelling to be a strength of ours, and we've done a great job of it on our podcast and newsletter audience, and we see huge potential in nailing it for channels like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok as well. We think with the addition of the right creative vision, the video potential is endless.

I’m looking for someone who’s super comfortable leading a creative process from behind the camera (but also doesn’t mind hopping in front of it!), a curious researcher who’s happiest building out storyboards, and a meticulous editor who has a vision for the end product that just won’t quit.

When I started Money with Katie in 2020, being scrappy was the name of the game: seeing an obstacle and going, “What’s the quickest path around that?” instead of, “Well, I guess I’m stuck.” That energy is still a big part of our brand’s DNA, so if that resonates, you’re going to fit right in.

Research is a major part of my day to day, and it’ll be part of yours, too—we think some of the coolest stories and topics require a little digging, and I want to take our research to the next level in 2024: thinking less like “influencers,” and more like journalists.

Practically speaking on a daily basis, you’ll:

- Pitch stories and concepts, and hone truly unique angles

- Research and write everything from deep dives into labor history to 60-second short sketches about Jerome Powell

- Storyboard concepts and lead the creative development process

- Shoot content (we’ll provide your equipment, of course)

- Lead production of graphical elementsEdit and produce the final product

- Lead ‘packaging’ efforts — everything from the right title to the perfect thumbnail

- Translate our ideas to other formats, like short-form for quicker hits

“Success” in this role looks like injecting the traction we’ve seen on the podcast (6 million downloads to date) into our other multimedia channels, like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.

We’re hoping to find someone who:

- Lives in or driving distance to Sacramento, California, where I live

- Is experienced with Adobe Creative Suite

- Has a minimum of five years experience in media production and knows best practices inside and out

In return, here’s what’s in it for you: You’ll get to shape the visual storytelling of a rapidly growing brand, work on stories that range from “why IVF is so expensive” to “how to retire a millionaire” and everything in between, and make stuff we’re proud of every day that changes people’s financial lives forever.

COMPENSATION $85,000 - $90,000 *Final offers for this job will be made commensurate with experience. Total offer package to include benefits highlighted under our perks section below.

WHAT ELSE ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Character and integrity rank pretty high on the list. Our team is guided by our core values:

HOW WE TREAT EACH OTHER

Respectful Candor: We believe that engaging in timely, constructive, and open discourse is an act of respect that makes for a more transparent and productive work environment.

Empathy: We establish a strong partnership of trust with our co-workers and partners. We build human connections in order to understand each other.

Inclusivity: We strive to celebrate and welcome people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Differing perspectives help us make better decisions and have more fulfilling experiences.

HOW WE TREAT OUR WORK

Curiosity: We learn every day through deliberate inquiry and exploration. We re-examine assumptions to be a better company, offer better products, and become better colleagues.

Accountability: We celebrate our successes and own our failures. Taking responsibility for our actions allows us to learn from our experiences.

Bias Toward Action: We know speed matters in business so we embrace quick and calculated risk-taking. We understand that many actions are reversible and therefore we are solutions-oriented, even when facing obstacles and challenges.

Challenger Mentality: We don’t allow ourselves to be comfortable with our success. We are hungry to become the best and create more value for our audience.

Clarity of Purpose: We understand the “why" in our work, which helps us to operate at our highest level of performance and efficiency.

While being surrounded by a bunch of cool people who look great in crewnecks is its own reward, we have plenty more to offer:
