About the role
Morningstar is looking for a visual/communication design intern to join the Corporate Design Office team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable work experience and exposure to corporate design, brand strategy, visual brand development, content development, UI/UX, and environmental graphic design.
The design intern will work closely with the design director, design team, product managers, copywriters, developers, and other internal groups to develop digital, print, and experiential design solutions across all of Morningstar's non-commercial corporate communications. Our interns are expected to assist designers in all stages of the design process from concept to completion as well as general production tasks. Morningstar design internships are available for local students on a year-round basis (20-25 hours per week during the school year, 40 hours per week over the summer).
Job responsibilities:
- Assist the Corporate Design Office team with developing & designing content for a variety of mediums and communication channels including print, digital, and environmental.
- Participate in conceptual design development workshops.
- Assist designers throughout all stages of the design process including concept development, design development, implementation, & documentation.
- Assist with potential photography needs related to internal events.
- Assist with workshop planning & preparation for design strategy sessions with internal stakeholders & clients.
- Assist with designing PPT / presentation slides as needs arise.
- Assist with recurring requests that often require production and attention to implementing Morningstar's detailed design standards.
- Corresponding with internal clients, including answering routine inquiries, sketching multiple design options for review, and implementing the final design solution.
- Spec final design files and prepare final images for production.
- Maintain and organize archival digital files.
Qualifications:
- Flexible, self-starter who can work independently with strong attention to detail and has an interest in various aspects of brand, marketing, and visual communication.
- Growth mindset and willingness to step forward and make contributions for the betterment of Morningstar and its employees.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively or on an independent basis.
- Curiosity, resourcefulness, and a desire to solve challenging information and communication design problems.
- Excellent typography skills as well as effective communication, presentation, and technology skills.
- Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, and Microsoft Office.
- Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program throughout the internship, preferably one with an emphasis on design.
Nice to have: Experience with any of the following is a plus but not required: Adobe AfterEffects, Premiere, FinalCut Pro, Adobe Experience Manager, JavaScript, Processing, and HTML.
