Job Summary: Greet and Meet new residents and family members to help them feel welcome as they arrive. Provides assistance with documentation of social activities. Assists with and carries out scheduled activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

  • Greet and meet new residents and Family
  • Assists with and/or leads different group activities, as assigned.
  • Assists with group and/or individual outings
  • Interacts with residents, their families and visitors and with supervisors and co-workers in a polite and professional manner.
  • Knows locations of residents that attend activities.
  • Assists residents to and from activities. Is responsible for reminding co-worker CNAs to assist their assigned residents, who wish to attend group activities, to the activity room.
  • Helps to provide adequate space and attention to groups and individuals in groups.
  • Takes attendance for group activities.
  • Reports to Activities Coordinator on progress of residents in different activity groups and responds to any problems that may arise.
  • Is able to assist residents with activities; is compassionate and understanding and is able to listen to and converse with older people.
  • Performs all aspects of resident care in an environment that optimizes resident safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Notifies appropriate licensed staff when resident complains of pain.
  • Assists residents with behavioral problems, when in groups, to an area within the room that is more conducive to appropriate behavior or assists those residents back to their rooms.
  • Treats residents and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Must ensure that an appropriate person is left in attendance, if the Activities Assistant must leave the group at any time.
  • Carries out scheduled activities of the day, unless extenuating circumstances prevent doing so. Must notify the Activities Coordinator when this occurs.
  • Provides reality orientation to residents, along with other scheduled activities.
  • Prepares residents for meals. Serves and removes food trays. Assists with feeding residents, as needed. Provides sufficient drinking water, fluids, juices and snacks during activities.
  • Assists with documentation, as assigned.
  • Has a genuine interest in and appreciation of adults in the later years of life.

Professional Requirements:

  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is professional, neat and clean. No long artificial nails, no large or long dangling jewelry, no large dangling earrings.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains resident confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Completes education/in-services in a timely fashion. Monthly and annually and as requested.
  • Attends annual review and department inservices, as scheduled.
  • Attends staff meetings such as shift huddles/reports.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) and QAPI activities.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility.
  • Makes eye contact, smiles and greets others by name.
  • Make an effort to get to know team members, residents and their families.
