As a Substation Tech, you will provide skilled craftsmanship for maintenance and installation of electrical substations.
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system
- Installs, repairs, and maintains transformers, generators, lights, circuits, wiring, and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with electrical codes, standards, and regulations
- Studies plans, drawings, and specifications to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations
- Repairs and maintains high voltage systems
- Reading prints, layout work and installing new service
- Repairs electrical problems by replacing faulty parts and components
- Maintains electrical systems by conducting system tests; completing preventive maintenance requirements
- Maintains safe work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with codes
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications
- Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Installs below grade conduit and grounding, above grade conduit and grounding
- Installs substation steel and equipment, electrical bus work and jumpers

- Must be able to speak and understand English, ability to speak Spanish is a plus
- Requires some ability to read plans

- Able to adapt communication style to the speaker and possess a high degree of active listing skills

- Must be able to operate equipment such as: hydraulic press, crimpers, hand tools, ratchet cutters, band saws, sawzall, knockout set, conduit bender, ect.
- Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk crouch, kneel, climb and periodically lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to operate equipment such as: telehandler, mini excavator, back hoe and skid steer a plus
- Strong teamwork orientation

Education
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred
- Trade or technical school certification/diploma is a plus
- Minimum of 1 years related experience
- Current driver’s license
