Entry-Level Power Substation Technician - Abilene

As a Substation Tech, you will provide skilled craftsmanship for maintenance and installation of electrical substations.

• Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools
• Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components
• Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system
• Installs, repairs, and maintains transformers, generators, lights, circuits, wiring, and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with electrical codes, standards, and regulations
• Studies plans, drawings, and specifications to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations
• Repairs and maintains high voltage systems
• Reading prints, layout work and installing new service
• Repairs electrical problems by replacing faulty parts and components
• Maintains electrical systems by conducting system tests; completing preventive maintenance requirements
• Maintains safe work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with codes
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications
• Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
• Installs below grade conduit and grounding, above grade conduit and grounding
• Installs substation steel and equipment, electrical bus work and jumpers
• All other duties as assigned

• Must be able to speak and understand English, ability to speak Spanish is a plus
• Requires some ability to read plans

• Able to adapt communication style to the speaker and possess a high degree of active listing skills
• Must demonstrate emotional intelligence; being aware of the motions of self and others
• Must be able to operate equipment such as: hydraulic press, crimpers, hand tools, ratchet cutters, band saws, sawzall, knockout set, conduit bender, ect.
• Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk crouch, kneel, climb and periodically lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to operate equipment such as: telehandler, mini excavator, back hoe and skid steer a plus 
• Strong teamwork orientation

• Detail orientation

Education

• A high school diploma or GED is preferred
• Trade or technical school certification/diploma is a plus
• Minimum of 1 years related experience
• Current driver’s license
