Job Summary:
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for directing the maintenance department in repairs of mobile and stationary equipment, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Directly supervise, coordinate, and provide leadership to assigned employees. Train employees with established safety, operating and maintenance, rules and regulations. Hold personnel accountable for their job performance through coaching and discipline if necessary.
- Required to supervise on surface or underground, on any shift. May also be required to fill in for Production Supervisors, as needed.
- Understand aspects of collective bargaining agreement and company policies. Resolves personnel problems, supervising in a manner which promotes good labor relations including handling first step grievances. Utilizes the CBA and management policies to make clear, fair decisions to efficiently manage required work.
- Responsible for ensuring safe practices, including daily on-shift inspections, training and orientation, coaching, accident investigations, and inspections accompanying State and Federal regulators.
- Reviews production equipment to ensure correct operating condition, enters maintenance notifications into SAP, enters and completes work orders with appropriate closure codes. Enters PM orders, follow up orders, and PM feedback as required.
- Maintains records of work performed, absenteeism, downtime, maintenance work requested, accidents, labor relations activities, and production inventories.
- Communicates with peers, other supervision, and management as to conditions including hoisting outages, adverse weather, or mechanical breakdowns.
- Ensures employees are ready for assigned tasks on time, conducts pre and post shift meetings with crews. Discusses shift challenges and develops solution paths.
- Enforce safety rules and regulations, conduct regular safety meetings, promote safe work practices and attitudes.
- Analyze and supervise repairs, materials, tools, and work conditions.
- Ensure Employees perform and complete quality work in timely manner.
- Oversees maintenance/preventive maintenance on all equipment. Develops job plans to coordinate and execute work planned around operational requirements. Order parts needed for repairs.
- Analyze repeat work orders for a better method of repair.
- Assist storeroom personnel in determining proper inventories and supplies.
- Ensure the site adheres to MSHA regulations and ODNR Regulations.
- Other duties, responsibilities, and qualifications may be required and/or assigned as necessary
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Must be able to read and understand parts books, technical maintenance manuals, hydraulic schematics and blueprints
- Knowledge of hydraulics, welding, blueprint reading, rigging, diesel repair, basic electric, and plumbing
- Demonstrated ability to cooperate with co-workers and supervisors
- Two years heavy equipment maintenance and repair, preferred
- Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing
- Basic computer skills in Word and Excel, SAP experience a plus.
- 3 or more years’ underground mining experience OR Bachelor’s degree AND 1 year underground mining experience.
- Must be able to obtain State of Ohio Underground Foreman’s Certification within one years’ time
Work Environment:
- This job operates partially in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.
- While performing field work, is required to wear PPE, including but not limited to steel toe boots, hard hat and miners belt
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear
- The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- This job works in an underground mine where temperatures range from 78-100F. The relative humidity is high in summer and low in winter
- Work in underground areas require the use of a W65 self-rescuer per MSHA 30CFR
- Work areas are generally dry
- Must be able to walk for long distances over terrain varying from soft to hard as well as slick and uneven
- Lighting is provided in key areas; however. Most areas are illuminated only by a miner’s cap lamp and/or by equipment lighting
- Floor heave is prevalent and may result in uneven floor conditions. Floors may also be polished by mobile equipment traffic resulting in slippery footing
- As with all work underground, the position requires attention be paid to roof and rib conditions
- Must be able to perform work in shaft ways where conditions are wet, uneven and cramped quarters
- Must be able to work from heights and utilize a full body harness
- Must be able to ascend and descend a ladder of at least thirty (30) feet in length
- Must be capable of lifting to 65 pounds on a frequent basis
