Description
Develop, implement and manage comprehensive Environmental, Safety and Health programs that are in compliance with MSHA and Company Standards to safe efficient operation.
- Responsible for the maintenance and management of the site safety program, including tracking of Near Misses, Safety Observations, injuries and management of the employee safety incentive program when applicable.
- Assesses the safety risk of activities and recommends action to be taken to reduce risk and maintain compliance.
- Maintains the facility Safety and Industrial Hygiene programs (Hazardous Communication and Hearing Conservation). Includes employee training as required, maintenance of Safety Data Sheets, chemical inventory list, audiometric testing, etc.
- Works involving others (supervisors, manufacturing personnel, and regulatory agencies) to discuss problems and opportunities. Conducts RCA’s to address issues and ensure improved compliance with safety, quality and environmental rules and regulations.
- Trends safety performance for improvement and conducts monthly inspections and audits of facility for safety compliance.
- Selects and maintains proper safety equipment and inventory
- Ensures the fire sprinkler system and alarms are maintained and inspected and functioning properly.
- Conduct regular inspection/audits of the assigned area to ensure compliance with established requirements and procedures.
- Coordinate and/or conduct documented effective Safety& Health Training for employees of the plant and crewmen of the ship.
Environmental:
- Responsible for the maintenance and management of the site environmental program, including on-time completion, distribution and organization of regulatory and company reports, analysis results and environmental record-keeping.
- Assesses the environmental risk and opportunities and potential impacts on stakeholder (customer, community, interest groups, employees) priorities of activities and recommends action to be taken to mitigate risks and improve compliance and environmental stewardship.
- Keeps up-to-date with regulatory activities and directions on environmental issues of interest to Weeks Island facility and Morton Salt.
- Maintains all facility permits to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Coordinates and oversees required sampling, monitoring, and submitting reports on time to LDEQ, LDHH, LDNR and other applicable agencies. Initiates applications and modifications for environmental permitting as required.
- Manages waste storage, disposal, reporting and record-keeping at the facility.
- Develops and coordinates delivery of environmental training for all affected site personnel.
- Works with facility personnel promote environmental near miss reporting program and sharing of best practices to minimize environmental incidents, deviations and exceedances. Oversees investigations and the development of effective corrective action plans.
- Works with facility personnel to identify and implement sustainable projects to meet company objectives.
- Implements and maintains facility environmental management system tools. Completes and submits required reports on time to the Corporate Environmental Group
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field or commensurate experience.
- Minimum five (7) years of experience mining preferred
- Familiarity with MSHA regulations
- Safety supervisor or coordinator experience required
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledgeable in all phases of salt processing, mining
- Good communication skill
- Computer skilled
- Ability to supervise people.
- Knowledgeable in modern safety procedures.
- High School with post-secondary education or training.
- College preferred.
- Specific training in Manager, Environmental, Health & Safety.
- MSHA experience strongly preferred but not required.
Salary : $55,600 - $70,500
